Sorry, 3 years late... I remember New Mexico getting some of the Florida spotlight after the election. But their 5 electoral votes simply did not matter in the overall electoral count. Gore ended up winning them, but if Bush had won NM and Gore had won Florida then Gore would have been elected. It was all about Florida unfortunately.
