inspection

I know that this must have been asked a million times, but how do these places pass heath inspection?

I've answered this before! Where I live, there simply aren't enough inspectors, so places can go well over a year without inspection. Another thing I've noticed, in reading the health department reports, is how much places get away with and are allowed to remain open. I've read reports on restaurants that were given a "Provisional" rating and allowed weeks to fix the problems. In most of them, the place should have been shut down immediately, the door chained, and the place burned to the ground! Nine times out of ten the places don't fix the problems and are given another chance! I try to only eat at restaurants who have had a recent "Excellent" rating because of this. I guess that's why my family doesn't go out to eat very often!

We have just had a case recently where 100 people got food poisoning from eating a dodgy chicken roll. One was pregnant and gave birth prematurely. The authorities shut the place down so fast as so many people ended up in hospital. Prior to that the take away shop was fine, just a bad batch of chicken.

That's crazy. But I imagine that is an extreme situation that normally wouldn't be thought of by inspectors. That's like almost more of a CDC situation that you had going on over there. When multiple people exhibit the same symptoms at the same time coming from the same place, that's how a lot of health epidemics start. I do the same thing you do. Very rarely do I eat out anymore but when I do it has to be a place where I know the food is going to be taken care of properly and has good reviews. I cannot believe the practices that occur in the food service industry. I worked at an Italian restaurant when I was in my teen years and I saw meatballs dropped on the floor and picked back up and put on the plate. Roaches and a couple of rats as well as just the horrible condition of the kitchen and its equipment. That along with this show opened my eyes to how much nasty *beep* you don't see happen but often does in places like that. Then I want to hurt myself when I think about how much fast food I used to eat when i was younger and can only imagine the quality and cleanliness of those places.

Someone I met was telling me when she first came to Oz as an immigrant her first job was in an Italian restaurant where her job was to wash left over spegetti from customer's plates to be served up again the next day!!! Needless to say she didn't return for work the next day.

I'm curious as to when GR or the producers inspect the kitchens. I have a difficult time believing GR actually eats the food he orders knowing there's a high chance it's old, rotten, etc. Then again I suppose that could be why he never really eats anything
