Which closing mad you most sad?

https://sites.google.com/site/ramsayskitchennightmares/

At the end of each episode you get the impression that most succeed but actually well over 60% fail (it's actually worse explained later). In any case, for me Cafe 36 was a sad story because the elderly couple were so nice and they invested everything and the husband looked like he was developing expediter skills. Here is a website that gives a more meaty version of the follow up other than open/closed http://theashleysrealityroundup.com/2012/03/19/kitchen-nightmares-seas on-2-restaurants-where-are-they-now/ After learning they closed just a few months after filming the scene were they offer Gordon an expensive bottle of wine and he insists the they keep it so they can drink it together later in their restaurant was very morose.

Also, I was sad to see that Zocalo's was on the list. This was the Mexican restaurant where the husband worked so hard in the kitchen to make it work and had such a good attitude.

The current failure rate is that 65% of the restaurant's close but that understates the story. In the first two seasons, only two restaurants are still open, most of the currently still opened restaurants are from the last two seasons. In other words, more are likely to close in the near to intermediate future.

Another pathetic closing was 'Mike & Nellies' steakhouse that closed somewhere between 6 to 11 mo's after filming. The reason it's so pathetic is that at the end of the episode it looked like such a success story.

BTW I am not blaming Chef Ramsey, he is dealing with very bad businesses that are most likely very high in debt and have lots of pending bills including property taxes that are very hard to get over.

I just watched the rerun of Mike and Nelly's. Why did they close?

Fraaaank. FRANK! Get my jean bin. Susie wants my jeans.
No she doesnt.

I just watched a rerun of Mike and Nellie's and I was really hoping that restaurant would stay open. I am not sure why it closed but I wonder if Mike's drinking got the best of him and he couldn't continue.

Samantha and Lexi had to be the most adorable daughters of any restaurant owner featured on Kitchen Nightmares. It was part of the reason I wanted Mike and Nellie's to succeed.

I agree with all of the mentioned restaurants. Another I would like to add is The Mixing Bowl. The owners were so likeable, in this case the manager was the jerk. They should have taken Ramsay's advice and fired him. As for the closings, the restaurant business is so tricky and no matter how successful one is, back taxes are usually a death sentence. Where I live, we have top rated, raved about local restaurants closing all of the time. Heck, we even have long established chain restaurants closing!

There are a LOT of restaurants on my list that I hoped would make it. In no particular order, and purely off the top of my head this moment, and only restaurants that I know have closed:

. Cafe 36
. Zocalo
. Charlie's
. Mama Rita's
. Giussepi's
. Classic American
. Hot Potato Cafe
. Sante La Brea
. Sushi Ko
. Fleming
. Finn McCool's
. Bazzini
. Casa Roma -- not sure if this ended up closed or re-opened [under another name?]

I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Great list Grace. Of course, we agree!

Yep. 

I forgot Flamango's/The Junction. On the update show they were doing really well, so I'm not sure why they ended up closing.

I recently wrote a blog about how many of the restaurants had closed, but have since found out more have shuttered since being on the air.

I am a writer with the website, . If any of the owners of any restaurants that were featured on Kitchen Nightmares would like for us to do an update on them -- whether closed or open -- I'd love to speak with them. I would love to do a story on what happened after the show aired and if they had a surge in business, or what the results were.

Thank you for asking, Grace! The site is www.updatedrealities.com and we also have a Facebook page. We are slowly building it, as it is just a few months old, but we are looking to do follow up stories on various reality shows.

Thank you again for asking -- much appreciated!

Classic American. The people were so real and down-to-earth.

reply

Damn that makes me really sad Classic American shut down. Felt so bad for the owners. :( They couldn't afford Payroll you wonder how they floundered for so long.

reply

Classic American, for sure. You could really tell they cared about their restaurant and tried so hard. Everyone was a big family and despite not even being able to afford payroll, everyone still chipped in and worked because they wanted the restaurant to succeed. I thought for sure they'd do well after KN because they turned things around and had pretty steady reviews, but then they eventually closed.

I always feel sorry for people who say "If I lose this restaurant, I lose everything" and then their restaurant ends up closing. Very sad. I also felt awful for Patty from the Fiesta Sunrise episode, her stupid piece of *beep* for a step father had one restaurant before that failed and he used her credit to open up another one, which also to no surprise, failed miserably and completely ruined her credit.

reply

For me one was Chappy's. He actually CHOSE to go back to his poorly prepared *beep* food when the guests loved what they were served at the relaunch. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I mean, why did he even want Ramsay's help in the first place?

He took the key to success and dropped it in a beaker of acid.

-_-

reply

Ramsay sort of knew Chappy was too far gone to change his ways throughout the episode.

reply

Finn McCool's made me sad. Not the saddest one but it's up there for me. The main reason being is because it actually did turn around and lasted for like, 5-6 years before closing only due to not being able to afford a doubled rent cost that was put on them suddenly.
