The Bagghar-Chase-Scene - One of the most amazing things on film ever

After watching it for the second time, i seriously feel that the staging, choreography and overall brilliance of this 2-minute tracking shot doesn't get enough credit. It's so awesome.

Maybe it's either because nowadays we are so saturated with CGI-stuff in Big-Budget-Movies in general that we dont even see the difference anymore between a soso-execution of a scene like this and truly remarkable filmmaking. Or it's just because "Tintin" as a whole probably has too much action scenes for one movie, so this one doen't stand out. At least to me it didn't after watching it for the first time.

Anyway, i'm glad i re-watched it. this movie sure isn't one of the best movies ever, but to me this scene alone is worth watching the entire thing. Spielberg at his best.

I've said it before as well and agree whole heartedly. I was having a blast but that was when I was blown away. How something like that was conceived and executed deserves FAR more recognition than it's gotten.

reply

I appreciated it's intricacies but I found it a bit over the top after a while. Still impressive but I'm not sure it did the narrative any favors.

Ultimately the scene/shot is a failure because it's at the service of nothing. The film and the shot are both an endless parade of meaningless chases. The long takes in Children of Men for example were much more exhilirating because they were in the service of a gripping story.

I know this thread is old now, but I just watched the film and I agree. I thought it was a little over the top, especially considering that Tintin is merely a reporter, but the execution of the scene was really well done, and I was quite impressed and enjoyed the scene. But it was probably more fitting for a Spider-Man movie.

Winners don't make excuses when the other side plays the game.

The scene you refer to was completely over the top nonsense. It jumped the shark and nuked the fridge. Mindless CGI rubbish, simply because they could. What insult to the classic comics it was.

Tin Tin was never a super hero. He was never a death-defying ultra-uber-mega-man. He had an Earthy normality that endeared him to his readers. Spielberg turned him into the hybrid of Gi Joe, Batman, James Bond and Sherlock Holmes.

He RAPED the spirit of the classic comics. A tragedy.....

Says the guy whose never even read the comics, and didn't even know the character existed until he came to these message boards...

Baba O'Riley... the best song in the world

I've read and own ALL the classic comics. You clearly haven't and you clearly don't. Nor, it seems, have you heard of the character. If you had, you would recognize the extremely valid and relevant point I just raised and agree with every word I posted.

Now stop trolling or get lost.

Says the guy who can't even spell the title character's name correctly.

Baba O'Riley... the best song in the world

Don't forget, he also thought the first movie was about a ghost ship, based on the trailer...

That's hilarious!

That scene was the best thing in the adventure cinema since The Last Crusade, to me.

To those who question 'realism', I thought that was obvious that Tintin didn't really perform any tricks, and those 'stunts' were absolutely unintentional. He's not really true to the books in this scene, and steps into a territory of characters with fool's luck, like Nathan Drake from Uncharted video games, Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island vg's and yes, Indiana Jones. Loved this scene. Watched the movie two times in a row just for it.

It was fabulous. Spielberg still has got it. If he wants to entertain the audience, he REALLY can.

Totally agree with OP. The chase scene is just WOW. I was on the edge of my seat and and I stopped breathing. It was so fast and just how many things were going on and the level of detail in every frame was such a delight. It is one of the best chase scenes regardless of CGI or not.

reply

Well, maybe it is very brilliantly executed, but I thoought it was out-of-place in a Tintin movie. I did enjoy it though, but a tad over the top.
