The Uncanny valley has finally met it's match

The best amalgam of live action and animation ever. A Great movie with a lovely and tastefully balanced visual aesthetic. Only complaint is that the third act felt rushed. This should have been a two hour picture.

Amen! If anyone knows the very definition of state of the art techniques like motion capture it's Jackson and Spielberg! I've said before it's the most realistic ocean in an animated movie I've ever seen and at first glance looks nearly live action even in little moments when the motorcycle chase starts or when Tintin says "And?" before Haddock says "Gone." On my top list of animation for sure. I'm glad I discovered the books because this movie was announced.

Wow. Praising Jackson and Spielberg for state-of-the-art motion capture when they were using the system Cameron pinoeered for Avatar. Not to mention the entire premise of the film is flawed. The uncanny valley was overcome when Neytiri was contemplating killing Jake in the jungle, not this film.

The uncanny valley refers to CG humans, not humanoids. Last time I checked, Neytiri was a blue, ten foot humanoid that with facial features halfway between a cat and a Tolkien elf.

Polar express is to Secret of the Unicorn as crayons are to colouring pencils.
