People, some black people do live in the inner city
Some black people speak with slang.
Some black people go to church.
Some black people live with their grandmother.
It's just true. It's annoying seeing people say "I don't act that" or "my black friends aren't like that"
Black people are diverse like all other people. "Lottery Ticket" is one of the most POSITIVE black comedies out. There's no overly melodramatic Tyler Perry quality to it. It's not ridiculously profane. The main character wants to get higher education but he can't because guess what, some black people don't have money. He's working his job and he's honest (to a fault to the community). I know we want to have these debates on "not another black stereotype movie" but this is not the movie for that argument.
Stereotypes come from true places but are exaggerated to generalize. These are real characters though. Kevin Carson (Bow Wow) does not live in the Cosby house. Not all black people do and if that's your only example of a non negative portrayal of blacks then you are either in denial about black life or naive to it.
Even though "Friday" was vulgar it rang true. Even some of Tyler Perry's characters hold truth. Maybe you're ashamed of your pothead cousin or your shady neighbor but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
The characters in "Lottery Ticket" do exist. Sure, there are some "extra" characters that aren't as developed but the movie is about a good young black man, his loyal best friend, and his church going, college attending best female friend. And there is NOTHING wrong with that.
