What is a 'Black People Movie'?

Is Jennifer Anniston's latest cinematic abortion a "white film"? Was Inception a "white film"? How sad we live in a worrld where people think that because a cast is predominantly black, the movie can't be enjoyed by anyone but black people. One of my favorite films right now is Kick-Ass. Not a single black principle in it and it was great. I also LOVED Black Dynamite which had no white principles and it's one of my favorites.

I grew up in the 80's where TV wasn't very integrated and there were a handful of shows that had more than two black people but I didn't think those shows were "white shows". I just thought they were shows.

People in this thread a racist and filled with hatred. We haven't evolved at all.

This is a black people movie. Tyler Perry movies are black people movies. Death at a Funeral was a black people movie. Barbershop is a black people movie.

And guess what? Their all terrible.

They usually involve people like Cedrick the Entertainer, Ice Cube, and/or Queen Latifah. And they involve lame ass storylines with said actors laughing over and over again at their own lame ass jokes. There's also usually some cheesy moral lesson at the end.

Not all black films are bad. I consider "Friday" to be one of the best comedies of the 90's. New Jack City and Menace II Society ar also good movies.

Friday, New Jack City and Menace II Society are good black films...The ones where blacks are buffoons and criminals, huh? Accurate portrayals of black people, right? Wow.

Wow.

^Lol...

Most of the time when you ask somebody about what's a good black film, they always bring up the old films during the 90's when blacks are killing and robbing each other and are involved with drugs.

But when the films have a positive motive, its horrible such as Barbershop, and most of TP's movies...

Yes, we havent evolved at all, because of THREADS LIKE THESE.

Idea; why not start the thread . "WHAT IS A TROLL?"

Or "Why I bring gasoline to a fire."

or "Why my opinion is "just a question, give an honest answer"

or "I usually get my insights on race by incendiary threads, so what?"

If you dont like the freakin movies, dont watch them. Other people can enjoy them , thats their right, Mr. "Conscience of the Racial Divide".

Honestly, there is no such thing as a "Black movie" really. There are movies and there are movies.

Hollywood labeling cinema made by African Americans is just another way of 'othering' us and giving them an excuse to ignore the films... I often hear from white movie goers as to why they don't like these films "I can't relate to the story"... "these types of movies are stupid" and I say *beep* Seriously!

Since when do people only watch movies that they can "relate to" and don't try to tell me that movies like Kick ASS, Napoleon Dynamite, Jack-Ass movies/shows, SuperBad, the Hangover, Road Trip etc, aren't Stupid movies! Give me a break! I too enojoy some of those movies because I go in expecting them to be STUPID... Why can't whites have the same approach with movies like Lottery Ticket? BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO LIKE BLACK FOLKS, BLACK CULTURE, BLACK ANYTHING... especially if it's "low class"!

reply

Black is part of the minority. White isn't (not right now it isn't anyway). Like it or lump it, that's why movies are labeled as 'black movies' (or the official way of saying it is "Urban Comedy" or "African-American Drama").

A "Black People Movie" is typically just a movie were the majority of the cast is black. Simple as that.

Only one person understood and properly answered the OP question, and that was "uncreativity".

Black people stereotyping black people! Better yet, rich black people lowering other black people!

nobody goes around saying "hey, did u go see that black movie?" or "did u go see that white movie?" there is no such thing. its only the topic of discussion when ignorant ppl come out of the woodwork to make it a race issue, hence the reason why ur asking this question right now. look at all the topics in this forum, its ridiculous.

nobody goes on a movie forums like "The Queen" to ask stupid white questions to get everybody's blood pressure up. check those forums. its either just talking about how good or how bad the movie is. its a shame really.
