really wish more black films were like this

I'm really tired of all the tyler perry type films that are overly religious, buffonish and ignorant. I was really surprised when i watched this to find out it was not like most black films. the actors were not over the top stereotypes but gave really good performances. i like the fact it also had a message, a real message not some preachy non sense. i hope more black films are made like this and they throw out the dresses wigs and bibles and get real.

I agree. I dont like the Tyler Perry type of black movies. I like the Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx and Wayans brothers stuff. This movie was very good IMO compared to the Tyler Perry types which seem to be all that comes out in the past decade.

You don't watch that many "black" films. They're out there.
Love and Basketball
Just Wright
The Secret Life Of Bees
Roll Bounce
Are We There Yet?
Barber Shop
Takers
Boomerang
Dead Presidents

Not all are masterpieces. But fairly decent. The problem. Hollywood. Doesn't promote them. Even the ones that make money get ignored.

There is also the perception. Jim Carry is over the top and zany. You have a black actor that does the same, it's considered clownish and bufoonery.
