For those of you who say that blacks should be embarrassed by this movie

Get real. These types of movies are for pure entertainment. They aren't suppose to have any real literary value to them. I already knew this when I decided to sit down and watch it. I love to laugh and have a good time. There are so many other things wrong in this country than worrying about how this movie makes me look and what will "others" think of me when they watch it. We have come so far as to have a black president but we still worry about "others" thinking the worst about us or that we are all like the people portrayed in a movie.

Its a movie!! It's not real life. Relax, get the stick out of you butt and stop selling out your own people by criticizing every black comedy that you see and calling it embarrassing while supporting Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, John C. Reilly, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller etc., who's basically doing the same in their movies but you'll hear no one calling them an embarrassment. No they are called "Comedic Geniuses".

u should be ashamed of the babble mouthing blacks who speak their jibberish on a frequent, daily friggin' basis, annoying the hell outta ppl left and right and blowing out eardrums.

seriously I like some blacks, but not most of them. the ghetto, uneducated roughed up blacks piss me off while the clean cut, white washed blacks I definitely do no mind at all.

it's just like tolerance of gay people. i can tolerate a soft spoken gay who does not flaunt his extreme queer-like sexuality for all the world to revel and bask in ... on the other hand .. raging, flamboyant gays that prance around singing little fairy tale songs are totally uncool and uncalled for.

have I officailly started a race war ?

I truly feel that way, though.

have a good one every1

I don't see what's the issue. It's a comedy. What? All of a sudden black folks can't be in a comedy? Especially one with a message in the end.

Im the Alpha and the Omoxus. The Omoxus and the Omega

The movies of those people you listed are considered better because of the other reasons than the skin color of the cast though, such as the writing, directing, pacing, editing, etc. And when those elements suck, guess what? People call it a bad movie - see the recent flops of several Ben Stiller movies for examples. See the problem is that you're comparing entire careers of seasoned comedians to this specific singular movie. Also you're comparing the writing of this to the acting of other movies as proof of this being good.

Everyone knows Will Ferrel comedies are dumb humor, but at least they hit that mark. This wasn't even really that funny, especially as a wanna-be of Friday. Which by the way is a movie with a black cast you don't hear people rip into, again because of those aforementioned reasons being well done. Sometimes, shockingly, it's NOT about the skin color but the movie quality...

Exactly, its a comedy so relax. Its not meant to be serious. I didn't see much of anything in this movie that should have been taken seriously. I'm not the type of person who looks for the bad in things. I'd rather enjoy the good. Was it Oscar worthy? No. Have I seen better? Yes. Have I seen worse? Yes. My point is that there is absolutely nothing about this movie that embarrassed me. If Soul Plane didn't embarrass me, I don't think any movie could.

Unfortunately, because I'm black, there are people who will imagine that I'm like a character that they've seen in a movie. Blacks are not the only people who are categorized by simple minded people. Whites, Asians, Latinos, short people, tall people, skinny people etc., all have been victims of stereotypes as well. These are people who lack the amount of intelligence needed to impress me so why should I worry about impressing them? When you label people and put them in groups based on skin color, that only means that you don't have the intelligence to understand that we are all individuals and no two people are alike. I was taught that in preschool but I'm sure I noticed much earlier so that's their ignorance. It really doesn't have anything to do with me. Just because someone's skin is white, I'm not going to put them on a higher or lower level than myself by getting embarrassed about what they've seen on tv. That makes absolutely no sense. I doubt if any white person has said "Oh my goodness, I wonder how Pee Wee's Big Adventure makes us look? Do they think that we are all oversized clowns who obsess over red bikes?" or "I hope others don't think that we all go to Bangkok, get high, kidnap monks, start riots and have unprotected anal sex with transsexual prostitutes hours before our wedding".

I just really have a hard time with the notion that blacks or anyone for that matter, should concern ourselves with what white people think of us. Why should we do that? Why should anyone have to impress people simply because they are white? I don't feel a need to put any one group of people ahead of my own group. That's asinine and makes no sense to me. I care about presenting myself in a respectable manner to others, no matter the color. I'm not the kind of person who acts a fool in public, call my friends "neggah" or any other degrading names. I don't personally make it my mission to impress nor to depress or terrorize white people. I don't give white people that much thought. Its just not high on my list of priorities, especially since I don't think the feeling is reciprocated. There is noway that I will deny myself the entertainment of an otherwise decent movie because of how it makes black people look. If a fictitious Hollywood production has that much influence over someone's perception, then their judgment shouldn't be that much of a real concern anyway. I mean, do you really care what that person thinks of you?

What was so shameful about this movie that couldn't have been done with an all white cast, anyway?
