why you are all wrong ...

1. While maybe not in line to receive an NAACP Image Award, it is not the most egregious depiction of Black America. The community was united, clean, and not completely hopeless. The young people were working and planning their futures. Kevin had respect for his grandmother. When confronted with morality and the hood culture of not snitching, Kevin chose morality and denied giving the shoes away. Kevin gave money back to his community and not for frivolous toys but for scholarships, parks, and businesses. Kevin and Stacy expressed love for each other and were not driven by raw lust. Even safe(r) sex was encouraged.

2. People are not walking out of theaters. In fact, people even clapped after the movie was over. People laughed throughout as well. It actually is funny. Is it the funniest of all times, no, but it has never been sold as such.

3. How can Ice Cube be a sell out when he is the only one who tries to shine a light on the people in the hood who are honest and hard working? The reality is the hood does have its bad apples, but more often than not, the people are good. Cube should know, he was one of those people who had positivity in his home and survived living in the hood.

4. To say all Black movies are formulaic is to ignore the fact that all movies are formulaic. If you study script writing you'll understand all movies follow a certain arc to every story. Is one Adam Sandler movie really profoundly different? Is a Jack Black comedy different from his others? How many years did Jim Carrey play the same goofball in his movies. The reality is that so many movies are cookie cutter, Black and White.
