Owen Slater...

I felt cheated as a viewer to see one of the most slickest characters on the show get killed and shoved in a box.. that wasn't fair at all. At least let show him go out in a blaze of glory.

They filmed his death scene but the roof caved in and ruined the set before it could be finished.

I'd love to see you in the moonlight with your head thrown back and your body on fire.

It was finished later, but they decided it would make the scene more powerful if the viewer did not know exactly what happened and just see his body in the box.

Except he didn't, did he? He just fouled up a hit, his target wasn't even scratched, and he died an ignominious death like most men in his profession.

From his abandonment of his mentor John McGargle and his double two-timing with Margaret - both behind his boss' back and Katie's back - Slater was pained as amoral, untrustworthy and two-faced, and it's only fitting he should have gone the way he did.

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

I cant argue with that, my good man. Lol

Besides, we all knew he wasnt going to kill Joe Masseria, like many other fans of the show as soon as this random big crate was in Nucky's room at the Ritz, we all knew what was in there.

"one of the most slickest characters"? Boy, was I glad to see him gone!
He had a very annoying vibe, I couldn't stand him for some reason. Maybe because his character was utterly unrealistic - he was portrayed too much of a googly eyed sweetheart for the murderer that he was, or what do I know...
