Masseria's war against Nucky made no sense

Gyp screws up and LOSES territory that belongs to him, and by extension, to Masseria. He is set to be whacked because of his screwing up AND making a mess in New Jersey. Gyp yells about how Nucky Thompson--who Masseria DOES NOT KNOW and has never even MET--is building something that doesn't include them. He does stroke Joe's ego by saying he'll make him 'Joe the KING' and promising to get rid of Rothstein, but he largely pitches the war as a way for Joe to get rid of a guy he doesn't know in a different state. Gyp COULD have said that by controlling Atlantic City, they'll control a port on the Eastern Seaboard that would allow them to bring in booze, but he doesn't, he just rants and raves about how he'll 'kill 'em all.'

And Joe goes along with it!!! Gyp blew it but when he asks Joe for MORE resources and men, Joe okays it all to go to war with a guy he doesn't even know.

It is patent nonsense.
