audience's energy during conpetition

I've just finished watching bandslam and i found it quite strange that at the end of the movie, everyone in the audience during the competition was jumping around waving rock hands like they were in front of some high-energy-explosive band while both ben wheatly and glory dogs and i can't go on, i'll go on were pretty mellow on the rock scale with their upbeat pop-feat. electric guitar songs...

did anyone else notice or have the same feeling??

Yes! I thought the same thing! The audience was SOOOOOO into it. Most enthusiastic audience ever! Especially for just some kids in bands you've never heard of playing that kind of music.

Maybe they were making fun of dodgy bans people going crazy over at music events. It was an over dramatization. But it works well.

It was shot at South By Southwest in Austin. So the vibe was already there. Besides, they were far from dodgy. That was the directors best move. Getting actors who were also musicians.

And I really liked their version of Everything I Own. It was a perfect choice given the song they had planned to sing. I think a lot of people missed the point of it's inclusion. It was written by the lead singer of Bread after his father died. So it was the perfect song to sing when Glory Dogs stole the song Charlotte wrote about her father. And I was glad they put their own spin on it, rather than doing it like the original. Don't get me wrong the original is much better, it just worked better here.

Mankind can be counted on to assert, with vigor, its God given right to be stupid.

It was very realistic to see the audience involved. Some movies where there is a crowd scene for whatever and the extras look like they have asleep or just short of picking their ass. Really gives the ending a good energy and you are excited to see what is going to happen!~!

Actually their satire of fandom over bands who suck, was in the cafeteria with everyone going crazy over nothing really spectacular all. Sa5m even chirps in with her comparison of it "Texas High School football big", which is of course absurd.

Yeah but the real Bandslam felt really genuine.

Well it's a movie where everything is made to look much more exciting than it would be in real life. Judging from the audience, you would swear U2 just took the stage! The extras were told by the director to go absolutely nuts and cheer and it does make for a more exciting atmosphere than if they filmed it realistically.

It reminds me when I was attending a late-night show taping in Los Angeles and it's amazing how much time & effort the production guys place getting the audience worked up and laughing at every joke, whistling & cheering etc. The high energy doesn't come naturally to the audience but when they get into it, it really gets the host pumped-up, makes the guests feel energized and more comfortable and makes the whole show more enjoyable.

Just a matter of perspective really, I hate U2, so you would never find me cheering. The thing is people act like that around their favorite bands and musicians, not just anyone.

So the Bandslam scene was very unusual since it basically had all types of music and bands playing, with a very appreciative audience.

Making the entire audience lovers of all types of music, does in retrospect give the whole Bandslam component, a fantastic, idealistic alternate reality quality that kind of reflects the movies teen movie origins.

This movie kind of keeps on giving. It was very well done.

But I'm still pretty sure the scene in the cafeteria is meant to make fun of bands and their fans, hehe.
