This was a plot hole, and it may a generational thing. High school kids are constantly texting each other, surely Sa5m would have sent Will a "where RU?" text rather than just waiting there. The director/writer was 50 and the other writer was likely in his 40's, so it wouldn't occur to them probably.
If it was me though, I would have gone in to see ED 2 whether Will showed up or not. A classic film.

Totally agree. And I'll take it a step further and say I'm sick of Hollywood. This movie gave a seriously weird and awkward looking dude his choice of two hot chicks. Look, I dug the movie but I just couldn't get past the fact that this main character was not handsome at all and the had the nerve to ditch her at the flick. Couldn't agree more.
Look around at real life (not Hollywood movies or high school) and you’ll see many weird looking guys with really hot women, and vice versa. (That’s why they say love is blind.)
And Will didn’t ditch Sa5m, he was so excited to see Burning Hotels he forgot everything else.
@twmac, they spent $20 million on this movie, so they probably wanted a director with a track record.
Or maybe all the twenty-year-old directors were tied up taking meetings, trying to get their two million dollar Indie zombie movie green lighted.
Also, he never had a chance with Charlotte, and come on as hot as Sa5m was and as good a movie as ED2 was, would you pass up a chance to see a live band and your competition for a girl you just recently met and kissed once?
