Hoping for a sequel
This is how sword and sorcery is done on screen. Brilliant movie. Lets pray that the new Conan film is as good as this eh !

shareHopefully the sequel will take us to a Robert E. Howard adaptation. "Red Shadows" seems the natural choice.
shareI'd settle for being able to see the original :s. Hasn't been released in the theatres here in Australis yet as far as I know.
shareSeems like this movie created a whole new caracter based from the true Solomon Kane, because they thought (perhaps right) that people wouldn't get why this puritan walks around battling evil and beasts and what not just because, and so they wouldn't have liked him so much as to be the compelling main character.
This movie's Solomon Kane doesn't have the essence of the true one, is what I'm saying. And as much as I'd like to see a proper one in the future, this version still is very appealing to me. They made it more relatable for a wide audience.
They didn't do a direct adaptation of any of the tales I know of but rather of the whole concept, and so I'd expect them to tell new stories similar to what we are accustomed but with that same twist and mashed up together.
I really enjoyed it and would like to see a sequel but I doubt it will happen based on how low a profile this film had, I never saw much advertising for it and if it was on at the cinemas it was there and gone very quickly, also not gettting a theatrical release in the States is bound to have a negative effect on receipts which is one of the main factors involved in sequels getting green-lighted or not
shareI approve this notion.
shareFingers crossed for a sequel!
The film looks to have flopped to be honest judging by the estimated budget and the actual gross income. If a sequel is to be made, it could really be a b-movie and a straight to TV affair, which I think would be bad for the over all franchise seeing as the story has so much potential.
I'd prefer a total overhaul for a sequel with a major Hollywood star and director attached but it seems as though this kind of movie plays second fiddle to the other Superhero/Comic book movies currently being made, i.e Hulk, Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman etc.
You look at the new 'Thor' movie trailer and think, why couldn't this film be shot/made like that? If it had been, I think we'd have seen a trilogy. The current star just looks like a cheap Hugh Jackman, no disrespect to the fella, did a decent job but as always, money talks in movieland.
I watched the bonus stuff on the dvd last night. Both Purefoy and the director both speaks of a sequel. Aparantly they want it to take place in africa, and follow one of the classic Kane stories (I forget the name of it. Probably 20 years since I read the story).
shareI do not want a sequel as Hollywood and movie land in general needs to *beep* off with the whole sequel thing. Can't they just make one great movie like Solomon Kane and then LEAVE IT BE FFS. And no I am not looking forward to the new Conan movie they can *beep* right off with it as Conan is not Conan unless Arnold is in the role.
"You wont give me the f_ckin day off?. I f_ckin work 8 hours a week."
Arnold actually was horrendously bad as Conan.
Completely and utterly miscast.

A matter of opinion. Not fact. And it doesn't matter how many think it. It is still OPINION.
"You wont give me the f_ckin day off?. I f_ckin work 8 hours a week."
That you think only Arnold can be Conan is indeed your personal and highly subjective opinion. That many others who nothing of Conan beyond the Milius movie (meaning they know nothing of Conan period) also think no one but Arnold can be Conan doesn't change the fact that it is still just an opinion.
However, wether we are just talking about Arnold's perfomance alone or the larger issue of the Milius movie fundamnetally perverting Conan into a borderline retard and a freed slave; it is objective fact Arnold's Conan has very, very little in common with the original literary Conan. I'd say that makes the statement that Arnold was miscast more than just an opinion.
However, Arnold wasn't the problem. He fit the script which was tailored for him, and that gives a clue as to what the fundamental underlying problem actually was: that the basic premise and Conan character in the script of the Milius movie is the exact polar opposite of the literary Conan.

Arnold rules, you tules.
"You wont give me the f_ckin day off?. I f_ckin work 8 hours a week."
As a general thing, Arnold rules!
I am thrilled he will return to acting, he has been sorely missed.
But in the isolated case of Conan, he ruled no more than he did as Mr Freeze.

well, Arnie was just being himself, as always, whether he's a barbarian in ancient times, a killer robot from the future, or a politician.... :p
