I love this movie as much as I can, being a big fan of the steampunk genre, which this fed onto very well. Good story, but it wasn't conveyed as well as it could have. I hadn't even heard of this film until I saw the Lovely Bones and looked up Saoirse's past films. So I guess there wasn't any money for advertising or a big release.
Also there wasn't too much action. I haven't read the books yet so I can't say anything about that.

This is honestly the only film that deserves a remake in a few years, and eventually the rest of the series as adaptions. So much potential, all gone to waste because of poor directing and marketing, pretty much like the story's city itself.

you should read the books. The book, City of Ember is so much better. There are no giant insects and the fact that they are underground isn't revealed until the end.

Huh. I'll look into it. I'm not much of a reader but I'd like to see what the differences are.
