I was expecting them to get out, and find that the "builders" had had to create miniature people as the only way of preserving humanity.
But there was no indication of that at the end. The vehicle (assuming it was not a toy) seemed proportionate, as did the blades of grass.
So does that mean that the people were "normal" sized, and the insects and animals got bigger?
I don't think they were any smaller. I guess it was meant to be handwaved by "Whatever disaster killed humanity made animals gigantic.". It's a pity, though. "Everyone is genetically modified to be tiny" would have made for a masterful plot twist.

The insects were obviously irradiated from the nuclear fallout of the war above.
The people are normal sized. You can see the "please carry babies" etc. signs that are normal size for when the first inhabitants evacuated from above ground and entered the underground shelter.
Ive read the books. - So damn well worth it.
They are NOT shrunken nor is anyone else. The abnormally large animals in the movie doesnt exist in the books and does make for something quite wierd as they arent explained.
The world however, did face - if i recall correctly 3 wars and 4 plauges after the initial inhabitants of Ember was sealed up.
Though we might sadly never see the rest of the books made into movies, I dont think ill spoil alot by saying its not a dead world they get up to after they leave Ember.
