Really, every scene with Sacha Baron Cohen was jarring and incongruent with the texture of the rest of the film. It was bearable to a point, but forcing in a climax scene with him chasing Hugo around the station yet again, only to be told by George that "he belongs to me" was really awkward. It just didn't fit with the highly emotional scenes that went before and after.

I would love to see an edit with all the station inspector scenes taken out. I think it would make for a far more efficient, engaging story that is more tonally even.

Sacha Bar... bla bla bla... Borat was the major drawback in this movie for me. I don't like him, I don't want to see him. He ruined this movie in every sense of the word with his real life image that he has created, because every time when I see him, it reminds me of that stupid Borat. Borat is not funny at all. It may be pervert, disgusting, degrading or whatever, but not funny. The same goes for his other "comedian" roles, although I haven't really seen his other movies, only a glimpse or trailers.

In short, since his role in Borat, he shouldn't cast in serious movies, because I can't take him serious. He will always be Borat or whatever jerk for me. I think I'm not the only one who thinks like that.

His moments in the behind the scenes stuff on the bluray are pretty excruciating to watch. He stays in character but it just doesn't work, he comes across like an egotistical numptifarian.

I agree, I thought his role in the film was irrelevant and useless.

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw Hugo for the first time yesterday; I definitely agree with your points! Well said.

Agreed. A completely jarring character to the tone of the movie and annoying as well.

I thought he was great. One of the best things in it.
