Overrated and just not that good

Seriously, this movie is just not that good. The acting was fine but not great and the story was just dull. And that broad who won for Best Supporting Actor did not deserve to win. Hailee Steinfeld out acted that broad and True Grit was her first role in a movie!!!

Oh, and David O. Russell is a sociopath.

That is all.

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that.

Everything is overrated. Anything that has any sort of reputation or credibility is seen as overrated or crappy by someone in the world. The story isn't for everyone but the acting was incredible. It makes the movie. You don't have to like a movie. It doesn't even need to suit your "taste" in movies. The movie is far from crappy though.

I watched "The Fighter" 1 hour ago and I have to say that I´m really a bit disappointed. Sure the acting was good, but the story was trivial and not moving.
Without knowing the end of the movie it was obvious that Micky Ward will win the final fight.... After the movie the story seemed to be similiar to the story of many guys coming from the poor district and becoming a profi boxer. I didnt like the fighting scenes too.

In my opinion to say that a movie is overrated is not suitable, because the majority of the audience obviously enjoyed the movie. Of course for me it is overrated but this is only a senseless phrase, because it would not have gotten this good rating if it was overrated in general :)

I rated a 6/10, it is not that good I expected, but far away from being crappy....

Comparing "The Fighter" with "Million Dollar Baby", Clint Eastwood´s movie was much better I think. I missed a good score in "The Fighter", most scenes didn´t have an emotional effect to me...

I hope you understand what I mean, my English is awful :D

I'll give this movie another watch some day.
To be honest, it was one of the most disappointing "highly-ranked" movies
I've watched in the theatres... with Benjamin Button being on par. (Both rated 8/10 on IMDB)

I wasn't expecting anything like Rocky, but this movie just bored me to death.
It didn't make me engaged in the characters, and I couldn't relate to the emotional feeling of any of them.

The final fight was anti-climatic as well...

I just finished watching Real Steel. And although these two movies are quite different, I just remembered about The Fighter cause they were both "boxing" movies. And man... Real Steel was A LOT better than this movie, and it was capable of pulling the emotions out.

Agreed...instead of empathizing with the characters, I was just annoyed by them. Warrior is a far, far superior film.

FYC: Alan Rickman for Best Supporting Actor

With the greatest respect blazecentury you're pulling a really long bow IMO comparing these two movies as "boxing" movies.

Real Steel: big budget, science FICTION, heaps of CGI action, all wrapped around an "oh so cute" family story focussing on dad and son bonding.

The Fighter: low to medium budget, a fairly true to life portrayal of actual hard-nosed people eking out a living in the legendary school of hard knocks. Whilst not sugar-coated, it does have a sort of a real life happy ending.

I can understand posters comparing The Fighter to Warrior, but to Real Steel?

IMO a little bit like comparing 2001: A Space Odyssey to Star Wars IV because they both involve outer space.

I liked the movie, and loved the performances. I give the movie credit for showing some really unpleasant people and not sugar coating it. Mickey Ward's family was pretty awful. I don't know any other way to say it. The filmakers did not sanitize them or hollywoodize them. I give the movie a lot of credit for that. I didn't find them boring, but their behavior made me sick sometimes. Again, kudos to the filmakers for showing this, warts and all, but not sensationalized.

Magnificent film, and well deserved Oscar for Christian Bale.

YEAH. What stephan-128 and samsan_lee said.

Maybe you have to be a fight fan to like this movie.
