I've watched this film several times now and with each viewing I'm no closer to understanding the money making scheme that Dicky was offering the Cambodians. All I get is that he asks 10 of them to give him $200, which obviously makes $2000. What are they giving him money for? Is he conning them or not? I'm confused.
Same as any pyramid scheme. You recruit a certain number of people to sell a product or a service typically. Those people give you the money for their start-up package, any money they make you get a percentage. Those people you recruited needs to recruit people on their own for them make money as well. You continue to make a percentage from the sales of your recruits recruits and their recruits and so on.

That makes sense thanks. I'm guessing that the $200 those 10 people gave him ($2000 total) was for a start-up package of drugs, as that's the only product/service that Dicky has access to.
Yes most likely it was drugs. Since they are done pretty much the same way. The supplier provides the drugs and usually gets paid off top. The drug lord then have people under him who cuts the drugs up to sell it basically for retail.
