Am I the only one who think Bale/adams swallowed MW.

What I mean my this I felt Bale's totally out-shined MW in the movie and that's why I gave the movie a 8/10 instead of a 9/10. I also felt Amy Adams out-shined MW too.

In my opinion you're wrong

Bale and Adams are both fine actors but Wahlburg played his part to a TEE

Understated, 2nd son, passed over, then pissed and eventually sucessfull

Agreed. Whalberg plays the part very very well. I liked his understated strong silence. He knew what he wanted but was surrounded by domineering family members so he felt trapped and didnt want to hurt their feelings.

I think Whalberg is a decent actor but does turn up in some turds a bit too frequently to ever be considered in the same league as your Bales, Pitts or the likes

Dude, an oil lamp could outshine Whalberg. Its not a big challenge. And you know, Bale and Adams are actors, that helps. Whalberg is a celebrity.

I think Mark Wahlberg is fantastic in this...but Bale and Adams are even better. Great movie.

They weren't competing with eachother. The movie may be about a sport but that doesn't mean the movie is a sport. They all played their respective roles excellently I thought. Wahlberg's character wasn't the type of character one could go all out for like Bale's character was.

Bale had the most noteworthy performance, but everyone in the movie was great. I think Bale's character was more conducive to having a standout role though.

Wahlberg here was an example of a good casting choice. I did agree with the OP to the extent of thinking the performances by Bale and Adams were great, but Wahlberg's character was written to be not as interesting as Bale's. Dickey after all I have to assume Bale literally was thrilled to get. It was perfect for him. And Adams made her character into a completely memorable one.

Having said that, Mickey was something of a plodder, and I think Wahlberg played him right.
