You think you are getting a sports movie......like Rocky. But inside its 2 hours of "As the world turns" or some other crappy soap opera, sandwiched around 5 minutes of boxing.
And the pack of wild animals that are his 7 sisters and bloodless mother, its a miracle Micky can interact with other humans on any level.
Do yourself a favor, skip the shrill screaming, via fast forward and just watch the 5 minutes of sports action.
I thought it was great.
shareIt was like watching a documentary about a dysfunctional family rather than a boxing movie. I thought it was going to be inspirational like Cinderalla Man or Rocky and after an hour I switched channels because I no longer cared whether Mickey won or lost because his mother, brother, and sisters were driving me nuts.

shareYes i too sat down thinking "OK another zero to hero boxing movie" but it is so much more than that and all the better for it.
come the last couple of fights i found myself actually caring whether he won or lost and felt the blows and anguish of his corner team.
This is due to the depth of the film and terrific performances by the whole cast. The illicit empathy in a way no Balboa or that sort could ever do.
