The documentary about drug addicts

I was intrigued by the documentary that was shot and shown in the movie. I wondered if this documentary really existed (given that the movie was based on real people) and, as it turns out, the documentary is also real - called High on Crack Street (1995). According to the movie, the documentary makers originally deceived Dicky by telling him that the documentary would be about his boxing comeback, while it was actually about his addiction. Would be interesting to know, if that's how it really happened.

I've seen the documentary and I don't think that is the case, at least not how it is shown in this movie. The documentary focuses on three people and while Dickie is one of them, the majority of it focuses on the other two. This movie makes it look like it is mostly about Dickie.

I’ve also seen the documentary several times and I don’t believe HBO deceived him that it was about his comeback. While I realize the documentary does not show everything that was filmed, nothing in the documentary alludes to a comeback. Perhaps the reason for Dickie stating the documentary is about his comeback is to conceal the real subject of the documentary from family and friends. Dickie was in the documentary for 15 minutes at best and the majority of the film focused on the other two addicts Brenda and Boo Boo. I’ve read that Dickie was incarcerated during most of the filming and thus, they had little footage of him. The real Boo Boo (from the documentary) appears in “The Fighter” and the very end showing off his new teeth (all three had very few teeth in the documentary).
