He'd be wrong for the part, but I think you need to go watch Assassination of Jesse James. Pitt is a great actor

reply

Brad Pitt is a good actor but I can't picture him as Dicky at all!!!

Life without empathy is no fun at all.

reply

Please go watch "Fight Club". Brad Pitt would be much better being Dicky than being Benjamin Button for sure.

reply

Plus, Pitt is also a HUGE A-list movie star, who can act. Him playing second fiddle to a B-lister like Wahlberg who CAN'T act makes no sense.

reply

Christian Bale is a pretty big actor too and he definitely overshadowed Wahlberg. I don't like Marky Mark so I think anyone could overshadow him but Bale or Pitt would have stolen the show. Bale did an excellent job and as much I love Brad Pitt, I can't picture him in the role.

They don't deserve candy!

reply

I could see Brad Pitt as Dicky. Watch 12 MONKEYS (for which he got a Supporting Actor nomination) and you'd agree, too.

i too cant imagine...up to "12 monkey" point...
yes pitt can.

reply

Sure ... Pitt can act. But, Bale did the job so well that he got the awards - justified. Don't think Pitt would have won them ...

reply

Why do people compare an actors work from 10 - 15 years ago to what they can do now? Brad pitt + Fight Club does not = Good actor for the role of Dickie.

Bale was perfect for the role.

But if you insist on prior work in a similar role? The Machinist.

reply

That's exactly what I was thinking, 12 Monkey's... He'd have pulled it off.

reply

mark wahlberg is everywhere dude.. from marky mark and the funky bunch to entourage.

If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0

reply

Wahlberg can't act? Pitt gets a whole movie to downplay a character and all he can muster is blandness. (Case in point: Benjamin Button). Pitt needs broadly sketched characters like the one in 12 Monkeys or Burn After Reading to really shine. He can never do what this guy can convey with one single minimal expression. Highly underrated actor, Wahlberg.

He was cool enough in Snatch

reply

Pitt was absolutely brilliant in Snatch, which is about as relevant to this movie as it gets. Stole every scene.

For anyone who hasn't seen Snatch, then watch it. Great movie.

reply

Snatch is a fun movie, but I can't call Pitt's acting in it "brilliant", at all.

He wasn't portraying any kind of real person. It was all a goof. He was terrific and cool, and it worked for that movie, but it wasn't any kind of display of serious acting skills.

I'm not saying that Pitt isn't capable - just that Snatch isn't a good example of it.

reply

Well, it's all opinion. To pull off a pikey accent as convincingly as he did was exceptional imo, and the range of emotions his character showed were varied enough to be a good display of acting. I don't know if you know any real life "pikeys", but Pitt's portrayal of one was very good, even if of course it's slightly exaggerated for dramatic effect.

reply

they are all good, not great actors...bale has the potential 2 b a champion but needs 2 train more first...can't we all just get along.

reply

I can imagine Pitt in the role; (although I doubt he'd have aced it, like Bale did... ) it's Matt Damon I have trouble picturing!

This is where the magic happens... and by "magic", I mean nothing.
