Anyone read the book?
And if so, how similar are they to one another?
Just curious.

The overall plot is the same, but the details are quite different. I actually like the movie, but the book is much better overall. Completely enthralling.
What I've got in my head you can't buy, steal, or borrow. I believe in live and let live.
The book is good! The characters are fleshed out much better and it has a better sense of dread and true horror of the vines. Some of the descriptions are very vivid :) good book, very suspenseful and makes you look at vines differently.
Movie was okay. Not horrible but not very memorable. Casting directors kill movies like this by filling them up with generic, blandly attractive, moderately talented actors and actresses. It's predictable from start to finish (book is not) and overall is a good mindless trashy movie that is decently enjoyable.
I'd recommend the book though!
Same with Scott Smith's first book, A Simple Plan. Gripping read, so-so movie.
shareThe book is incredible. Hard to put down and much different from the movie.
shareBook has details that would answer a lot of the questions on these posts if they had been included in the movie.
shareThe book is awesome. Much much better than the movie. The movie changed a lot of the plot details. For example, instead of Pablo (renamed Dmitri in the film) going down into the hole to find the cell phone (getting injured in the process), the movie has Mathias do it. Also, the book describes both girls as being tiny, barely 4'11" tall. The movie has both actresses average height.
