Thank goodness Mathias was a nice guy

At first I feared that Hollywood was going to cast German tourist, Mathias, as a stereotypical obnoxious German man. I'm glad that the director portrayed Mathias as a normal, polite, friendly young man who befriended the other young American tourists and even invited them to accompany him to the Mayan temple. When Hollywood does stereotypes of foreigners in American movies, it reflects poorly on America.
Showing German young man, Mathias, as just any other friendly, party-loving dude made the audience sympathize for him. I felt really sorry for poor Mathias when he fell and severely injured himself inside the temple.

That dude got it the worst man!
First he fell like 15 feet down the pit and broke his back, then they had to chop his legs off, and finally he got eaten by the vines.

He would have been much better off just go to Disney Land or something? :P

jeffyoung1, I'm glad they portrayed Mathias as nice and gentle as well...he was my favorite character and I felt so bad for the guy. I'm American and lived in Germany for 3 years and all the Germans we met were polite, well mannered and just like Mathias. It is us Americans that are very obnoxious.

Well Germans kind of have to be nice, friendly and polite considering they tried to take over the world TWICE.

yes he was portrayed as a human being, but ended up getting the worst fate of them all, he was basically tortured during most of the film. Maybe some conspiracy theorists will start saying that was jewish hollywood getting revenge on ze germanz. :p

Which makes it kind of worse though, hes a nice guy yet look what happens to him - he breaks his back, loses his legs slowly and then gets choked to death!
Not the holiday he was imagining...

Also, when Amy was getting hot & heavy with Mathias dancing on the beach, I thought he would end up taking advantage of her.
But he ended up discretely motioning Stacy to come over and save him (and Amy).
What a man, what a man, what a mighty good man.

How do you know, that after an exhausting day of exploring the ruins, he wasn't planning to drug them via contaminated water bottles, then put their unconscious bodies in the jeep, drive them to his secret hut in the jungle, chop out all their organs and sell them on the black market?
