Cult classic...

It feels a bit presumptuous to say that about a movie only as old as 2008, but I honestly believe it. I love this movie. I watched for one reason if I'm being honest. I'm a huge Anthony Stewart Head fan because of my love for Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Once I found out that Anthony would be singing in this, it was a no brainer to at least check it out. Everyone does a great job. Hell, I didn't even mind Paris Hilton.

In my opinion though, the real standouts of the film are Anthony, Blind Mag, and The Grave Robber. Dear LORD the Grave Robber was awesome. While I think overall Anthony has the best voice, the Grave Robber has my favorite part in the whole film. I think I've watched the Zydrate Anatomy part about a billion times.

I just love the whole scene. The music, the way he sings it, and the faces he makes. He's just so expressive. Like when Paris screams "Who did that?!" and he points at Alex Vega. I laugh every time. Also, the way he says "Surgery...Surgery..." Just awesome.

But yeah, this movie is definitely on my list of favorite cult classics.

The term "cult classic" has been so overused by marketers who try to turn every movie that fails at the box office into a "cult classic".

Meanwhile, the people that really decide these things--the film programmers and midnight movie-goers--are too obsessive in my opinion and have really selected TOO FEW movies to pour undue adulation on. I have a theater up the street that shows midnight movies, but I rarely attend because half their programming seems to consist of either "The Room" or "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". "The Room" is just so bad it's bad, and there is a point where you just get too old to dress up in costumes and cavort with 15-year-old girls in lingerie while acting out scenes from a movie you've already seen hundreds of times. There should be MORE genuine CULT movies.

"Repo!" is kinda a good candidate, but it's too much like "RHPS" in my opinion, but with more gore and less perverse sex. Still, whereas older generations were into punk and transgression, the Millenial generation is incredibly Disney-fied and seem to really be into frickin' sing-alongs (and singing with a bunch of drunks at a movie on Friday night actually makes me miss the fifteen year olds in lingerie). So I guess if sing-alongs are the future of cult/midnight movies, this is better than "Grease". I prefer "Cannibal Holocaust" though. Try singing along to that!

I have to agree with the person who said it ...this is a cult classic and will always be... Yes it may be a musical but that's not what makes it a cult classic. Grease will never be a cult classic it's right there with dirty dancing, uncult worthy... Cult movies aren't main stream and create controversy, Such as Rocky horror did back in the day.Cult films trace their origin back to controversial and suppressed films kept alive by dedicated fans.... That's what makes this a cult movie, Us fans!

I think it only goes as far as a film with dedicated fans but not enough to be mainstream. I mean how would something like Return To Oz create controversy? It only went as far as "its not like the first film" and that isn't enough to call controversy, at least not in the 80's when the internet wasn't in common usage. However it is considered a cult classic and is adored by fans.

Yes, I agree! And what do they do for their next (unrelated) horror musical, The Devil's Carnival? Put the actor behind a thick, unrecognizable make up/mask. Yea, what a good idea. His voice was still good, but he lost at least half of his appeal and charisma!
