bad subtitles

The dvd I got has very poor, sporadic subtitling--about one every 3 or 4 or more lines of dialogue, and then sometimes it's just a meaningless fragment of a sentence that appears as a subtitle. Does anyone know why this is? I've run into it before for foreign films. This makes for a frustrating, almost useless viewing experience.

get a new dvd player perhaps?

I don't think it's the player--it's the way the dvd,itself, is made.

Only someone who speaks Norwegian would be able to judge if the subtitles are bad/poor. Often, for obvious reasons, not every word spoken is subtitled, as long as the feeling/sense of the spoken word is being transmitted to the viewer.
