Conroy and flies in almost every scene?

Had anyone else noticed that almost every time Conroy is in a scene, a fly is swarming around him? Coincidence or artistic nuance?

I noticed that! I was really surprised -- filmmakers usually retake a scene or digitally remove a fly in a case like this. Understandable in a scene in the Deep South or Moroccan bazaar.... but not in a closed up palace. Very odd that they just left them in the scenes.
