I love the show matteo is absolutely brilliant and also his boss the actress who was in corrie. Can someone tell me why that idiot dresses up as a woman with the wig on his head . Am I missing something ? I don't get the humor. It's not the actor that I don't like his character.

He's a transvestite - likes to dress as a woman occasionally. That's all there is to it. I guess it's to add a bit of diversity to a predominantly white working class show, but I suspect it's more for laughs to see a very ineffeminate man wear a dress, wig and heels.
