Dont you hate it when....

You're co-erced into socializing with an extremely bitter ex-math professor and his parental supervisors have little to no control over him, and he proceeds to systematically point out all your deepest psychological and relationship flaws with razor-sharp comments??
I hate it when that happens!!
That's just one of the parts of this movie that I didn't buy into. its a quality movie in general, but at the same time, by no means enjoyable or entertaining or pleasant to watch.

Yes. It's funny you talked about math, because you would expect the male and female star of Titanic directed by the guy who did American Beauty in a period piece where you can basically see Jack and Rose's marrigae falling apart and then rebuilt again sort of it's just guaranteed box-office hit and critical darling. But somehow, the mathematicians were wrong. This movie bombed and no-one talks about it anymore. Strange.

I don't know if you were being sarcastic with your post, but here are some statistics related to your statement:

BO Numbers:
Estimated budget; 35 Million
Estimated Worldwide boxoffice earnings: 75 Million dollars

Critical response:
Critical reception based on metascore: 69/100
Critical reception based on RT score : 67%

Audience reception:
IMDB Audience score based on 144k votes : 7,3 /10
RT Audience rating based on 105k votes 71%

Most recent post made about this film on the internet's biggest movie website (not including this post I'm making): Dec 2015. 7 years after release.

I'd say that there is enough evidence available that it did not "bomb" financially and critically. and that is without listing the fims several award wins and nominations which shows that it was appreciated by members of the awards circuit. It would also appear that to this day, there are those that are interested in talking about the film.

Of course this doesn't mean you personally have to like the film (maybe you did, maybe you didn't). To each their own, but it clearly was not a "bomb" based on the evidence available.

Peace
