The musical cues hurt the film terribly

The 'american beauty' style taps on the piano and the swelling of strings was grating. There are countless scenes whose power is mitigated (if not completely destroyed) by the obnoxious score. There is something to be said for silence. I suppose i should expect this from Hollywood in general, but the film is subtle and intelligent in so many ways that this aspect really bothered me.

I personally love Thomas Newman's score. It added more emotion and depth to already emotional and deep scenes; layering it perfectly.

Those piano notes were completely annoying.
