Might Be Me

but I can't see the point of a film like this. No, I'm not a hater - I own the damned thing on bluray.

But it's a horrid, depressing tale with no redeeming value at all. It's not like I'm the sort that needs a happy ending; many films I love and own lack closure at the end, and some aren't happy at all. But there was SOMETHING to like about it.

I rewatched this tonight and had to follow it with Tucker & Dale just to get it washed out of my system.

I completely agree! I thought I was the only one NOT liking this film. Although the actors are brilliant (and I love DiCaprio to pieces), the story just isn't doing anything for me. It does not make me, as a watcher, empathize or resonate with the characters or the story, and that is a very rare thing to happen in my case. I saw nothing in this film, apart from a forced depressing drama that tells the story of two forcibly depressed people. This film really is a ''hopeless emptiness''.

There were so many moments that i could completely understand and even relate to that i was actually surprised to realize near the end that i really didnt like this film. I should have just left the audience sad that things played out the way they did when things could have been different. She grew to think she didnt love him, he couldnt comprehend her level of depression, etc. Instead it just left me feeling sour and a bit angry. I kind of feel like it would have been good to show frank being able to live a happy life without all of the frustrations and confusion, but he wasnt likeable enough. Its a shame because the movie definitely had potential to be an incredibly moving watch. It felt to me like something was missing.

We're too used to fairytales and happy endings. They're sad but in the end the triumph is often clearly spelled out for use. This is more realistic. Dreams don't always come true. It's though better to find happiness in what you have or can have rather than dwelling on what you cannot.

The point of this movie was to tell men don't marry a woman who says she doesn't want to live a boring, monotonous, suburban life, and then shove the boring, monotonous, suburban life down her throat.

Also, don't threaten your wife with violence and have a ongoing affair with your secretary.

Frank was a terrible husband. No wonder April ended up dead.

I have always thought that DiCaprio and Winslet had to be thinking about how this film would absolutely destroy the romantic image they created just eleven years earlier in Titanic. Revolutionary Road is not a romantic love story; It's a realistic one. People have too many fantasies and nonsense when it comes to marriage and love. It is hard living with the same person and dealing with their issues as well as your own. Now add economics, children, and responsibility to the equation and you have Revolutionary Road and not the idealized images created by films like Titanic.
