I Wonder Why (Spoilers)
Frank didn't use the GI Bill and go to college.
After WWII so many men used those benefits to great ends and I just wonder if Frank really did not want to end up like his father, why didn't he go study something so he could do more than sales. You can always fall back on sales. There's some other topics that describe how "young" they were or how "middle aged" they were for the time. But really they were average--married around 22 years old and settled in the suburbs by 30 with two children prospering. But we don't get the development of the relationship, only where they have landed. And April is not mentally ill. Or any nasty names. And it's clear Frank had no qualms about cheating on her with just some girl. What if he had lost his job that day? Good grief. People are so freaking judgmental and this is fiction! It would be great if men could have the babies sometimes! A lot of women are done after two pregnancies and taking care of those two children up into their 20s, even with the most devoted husbands. If you were really paying attention, April worshipped Frank--he just didn't do anything about it.
