Milly's dress?

I do not know if I am right but I noticed it today. Does her dress change from the scene in bedroom to the scene where she is calling Shep outside? I will have to wait till it is on again, but I could swear it is a different dress. If so, did she change it because if Shep's comments? or is it just a goof.. Or the same dress throughout LOL

I have noticed that too. I do think she changed because she thought he wasn't impressed. But to answer your question, yes - she is definitely wearing a different dress.

Anytime I watch this, though, I feel like I can't seem to catch what he says accurately. I know he says "Is that what you're wearing?" and I can't remember her reply (she asks him if he likes the dress?) - but then he says "Yeah, yeah, yeah - you look great though!"

It's the added though that throws me. Did he compliment her or insult her?

He says either "You look great, though" or "You look great, Doll".... Then he says "I better haul ass".....

Oh - that's possible, that he said doll. I hadn't thought of that.

So now that we established all that, it just seems odd. Even though the dress is a completely different pattern, it appears to be the same type of dress which makes me wonder if it is a goof or intentional. The dialogue before the switch doesn't offer much insight into why she changed.

I did notice the slightly different dress with definitely different fabric pattern. To me the point of that scene was to clearly define the woman's relationship to her husband - a fawning unequal to her husband. Not that he was a bully or a bad guy, but just that is her role in life. So his lack of perfect enthusiasm for her outfit causes her to change it - but only slightly because her repertoire of possibilities in life is circumscribed. And changing the dress made no difference except to herself - a typical guy wouldn't even notice the difference, based on my experience. It was an amusing scene. If April saw that exchange, she'd be disgusted, probably contemptuous.

Back then, many women made their own dresses. They'd purchase a pattern and use it several times, mixing it up by using different fabrics, buttons, trim. Women also made their children's clothing, too. I was a child in the 70s in CT and it wasn't unusual for my mom and her friends to make some of their own clothing. And many of my friends had home-sewn clothing.

Yes it was a completely different dress. .. Her husbands recon made her change it
