Martini Bros. Redemption

When I read that the brothers Martini were writers on the show I saw some hope even though it was sci fi network (see battlestar). Then I saw the show. 2 episodes in I was drowning in my own vomit. As a fan of their other work I was embarassed for them. However recently I learned that they either quit or were fired during the pilot over "creative differences". It all makes sense now, especially after seeing their q and a's and interviews for their new film Lymelife. Both brothers never mentioned the show but were adamant that they were not going to venture back into television any time soon. I assume Flash Gordon was the cause. It was a disaster. And it just didn't sound like them. Their dialogue is consistiently realistic, scathingly funny and surprising. The episodes I saw had none of those elements. It all makes sense now: departing after the pilot means they had little to nothing to do with the series.

Yeah, the earlier episodes were cheesy.

For what it's worth, they get better from the episode "Sorrow" onward. Granted there weren't many eps after that, but they stopped using the "monster of the week" formula and moved towards a stronger overall story arc.

Well, there's always the upcoming movie (<- is very much an optimist :) )

Anything's possible. If it's got a good script, good actor chemistry, and a good director, it'll be...good! I'll be seeing it for sure.
