It's over???

SciFI said it's over so its over...NOW Sanctuary is up to see if it gets dropped...What happened to SciFi Friday's??? and where is painkiller jane?

reply

Paninkiller Jane is also canceled. I never watched it, but most people claim that it wasn't very good. As far as SciFi Fridays, I feel the glory days are in the past unfortunately. It's become somewhat of a joke, with a revolving door of past shows that are pulled after one or two episodes, or original shows that just aren't much up to snuff like Farscape and such. Right now Fridays on Sciffy is nothing more than a Stargate festival. Thou I do have high hopes for Sanctuary.

I know this post was about Flash Gordon, however I have to digress for just 5 mins. Give Farscape a go. It was one of the most original and daring shows on the TV.

reply

Are you referring to me? Cause I not only gave it a go, but went and got all the episodes on DVD! I do really love that show, and use it as a barometer of sorts to measure any new Sci-fi series that comes along. Which is why this version of Flash Gordon came across as a huge insult not to just fans of this classic franchise, but to all science fiction fans in general. After seeing what Sci-fi was capable of with Farscape, and then Battlestar Galactica, I couldn't wait to see if perhaps Sciffy was trying to recapture its glory days. Instead what I got was a producer that thought, "The name Flash Gordon is enough, now let's throw up some curtains and start filming!".

So I'm a huge scifi nrrrd grrrl however I've never caught a single episode of Farscape I don't think... but if your grouping it with BSG I suppose I ought to give it a try. Its really that good? And like futurey and spacey and stuff?

"People who believe in Hell deserve it"

reply

Hey there nrrd grrl! I guarantee that you will love Farscape! To be honest, it is rather more fun than BSG.

Hey, I know it has been a year since I was last on this thread, but just wanted to say that I did end up watching Farscape, I think right after my posts, and of course totally loved it. I actually can't bring myself to buy it because I don't wanna be sad to see it end all over again. I did HATE the ending in the miniseries though. It just seemed to be a little bit off from the original series. Wish they had really come out with those mini-sodes they were teasing us with for a while this year.

I am actually not too picky about my scifi. The only ones I could never really stand were Lexx and that Babylon one. I tried to like them, just couldn't stomach it.

This Star Cops sounds interesting though, going to check it out soon.

"Are you telling me your into artificial men??!"
"Is there any other kind?"

Think "Blake's 7" meets "The Muppets From Hell" (as envisioned by Stephen King) and you'll get the idea. Though they threw a LOT more money at Farscape than they did at Blake's 7, and it shows. And they had some GREAT writing on it too.

reply

Farscape is the best SciFi series of all time. Better than BSG, better than any of the Star Treks. Even better than Babylon 5, although that might be its closest competitor (either that or Blake's 7, but Blake's 7's problem is the whole BBC-Cheesiness issue, which does get in the way).

Haps, you state, "Never could get into Farscape, myself", yet you state in your post that Star Cops is, "Better than Farscape, that's for sure." How do you know? On what basis? Perhaps I am missing your point? For the record, after enjoying a scifi drama as well written as DS9, you know the kind, it starts out slowly, kinda boring, yet when all the characters are fleshed out, your in for a hell of a ride! This is what Farscape is. For the record, I read your post three days ago about Star Cops, and after figuring out that you weren't talking about Gerry Anderson's Space Precinct, I did look into what Star Cops was. It's only 9 episodes, and I found a source to get them. For the recored, I will get them, due to the fact that I love BBC SCIFI cheese! At the moment, this arguement is at 10, but it we need that extra push, we can go to eleven!

Fair enough about your view point on Farscape Haps. It happens to be one stated quite a lot. Since I respect your taste on science fiction shows due to the fact that we both share the same view point of the 1980 version of Flash Gordon being a work of art, I went and ordered Star Cops on DVD a few days ago. When I found out the creater of the series was one of the main writters for Blakes 7, that pretty muched sealed the deal. As far as the low production values you've stated about the show, most likely they wont get in the way as long as the stories are strong, much like Blakes 7 or the older version of Doctor Who. The only down side I can see, is the fact that there were only nine episodes produced.

OK, just a real quick question before I dig into this scifi show from across the pond. Is the model work up to par with Space 1999? I did look at the set samples of the show, and they rather looked like they were left over sets from the Canadian show Starlost. And*sigh*my friend "from across the pond" decided to just send me another sci-fi show from your neck of the woods, titled, "UFO". I don't want to hurt his feelings, so could you give me your honest thoughts on this show. It looks kinda lame.

Give Firefly I try, its funny as Hell !

reply

I did give it a try, right from the start when it ran on Fox in September to December of 2002, to the DVD release, to the motion picture, Sernity. Loved the show! Loved the film! Just wish it had a chance to run a few seasons more on T.V.

reply

hell no....Farscape is good but DS9 is still king.

reply

I agree. The only thing on Sci-Fi I ever watch now is Doctor Who. And that's only when it's on in America. >:(

Other then Stargate SG1 and Battlestar Gallaticia

Has Scifi ever had any good shows?

Guess I will go watch Manscito lol
