Sophia Myles needs to work on her acting

At first I thought that she was a new actress who just needed more experience, but then I went to her page and saw that she's done a lot of previous work.

Her acting consisted of looking at people and making her eyes bigger. She was able to show two emotions: happiness (smile/laugh) and sadness (crying). It doesn't take a good actress to be able to smile or cry. If there was a scene that involved something more complex to be going on such being in mental pain, but not crying, like when she was remembering her DA bf, Josh Lindsay, (The Mortal Cure), she did not pull it off at all.

If you watch the difference between when Jason Dohring's character is remembering Sarah (Sleeping Beauty) and Sophia's character is remembering Josh, it is obvious who can act and who needs more work.

I don't agree with you at all. Sophia could certainly do more than make her eyes bigger and show two emotions. That is an exaggerated ridiculous statement. No, don't agree with you at all, not at all.

Well, sweetjenz, I really don't agree. I thought acting was her strong point. And the fact that she was paired up with another fine actor, Alex O'Loughlin, was what really drew people in.

Yes, they were both good-looking, but their acting abilities was what keep fans hypnotized. With one look, they spoke pages and pages of dialogue.

Maybe you should check out some of Ms. Myles other works.

The looks is what I loved the most about these two characters. Mick's burning gaze everytime he looked at Beth. Their eyes always locked in on eachother. The didn't need words with those looks. They had incredible chemistry together. I honestly can't recally any other pairing that was as electric as these two. If someone was smart in Hollywood they would bring this great show back and make a movie or mini-series or movie of the week or all. there are so many fans left out there that want the love story to continue.

reply

I don't agree with you. I thought her acting was right on target, and the chemistry between Mick and Beth was believable.

I like Jason Dohring, but I actually noticed his "acting" occasionally on Moonlight. Sophia Myles was great throughout.

reply

I agree with the other "non-agree-ers"! Sophia is a fine actress who was the perfect match for Alex.

BTW, when Beth thought about Josh she did not only feel sad, there was a great deal of conflict in her feelings for him due to her feelings for Mick.

I can honestly say the only thing I remember her from is Tristan and Isolde, so I admit that I don't have a lot to go on to judge her acting abilities. She gets a lot of work so I know that she is a decent actress. Currently, I just don't see it.

I think mostly I was just so turned off by the relationship between Beth and Mick that I couldn't watch her without cringing when she was acting with Alex.

Since there's no comments about this, I think that I am once again alone, but I felt like Beth and Mick should have had more of a father/daughter relationship or at least big brother/little sister. Mick had saved her life and watched her grow up. That to me seems like it would lead to him wanting to protect her vs. be with her sexually. It was all too Woody Allen/Soon Yi for me.

I felt that the main story on Moonlight was Mick and Beth. It wasn't a creepy vampire story, but a more "human" love story.

Mick is the reluctant vampire, trying to come to terms with his immortality, and balancing his relationships with the vampire world and the human world. But really, he'd rather have been just a regular guy.

Without the love story between Beth and Mick, it would just have to be a copy of some other vampire series, in my opinion.

I think I'm the person that likes the chase a lot more. I like when there is sexual tension that is never fully acknowledged by the characters. I know there are only so many ways to do that and it does get boring to see it in every show, but I am obsessed with the chase (kind of like I am obsessed with Alex. Have you seen the on-set pictures from the Back-up Plan? He is so ridiculously gorgeous with short hair. *fangirl freak out done* :))

I liked the character of Mick a lot. His reluctance to be a vampire made him a very interesting character. Maybe I just needed more time to adjust my mind to the love story, but now we'll never know since the show got canceled -_-

reply

The fact that Mick rescued Beth as a little girl was one of the reasons why he didn't want to have a romantic relationship with her. It freaked him out. That's why in episode 12:04 when Beth found out for sure Mick was her recuser all those years ago Mick said, "Now you know why it will never work."

I think the brilliance of Alex, Sophia and the writers was making the audience NOT CARE if Mick knew Beth as a girl. There really wasn't much of an "ick" factor felt by most of the audience, with exceptions of course. Mick and Beth's chemistry was awesome and we could care less they were 50 years apart in age, even though as evidenced in episode Fated to Pretend, those thoughts were still on Mick's mind.

The lead actors, other than their looks, does nothing for me. No acting, no chemistry. They make such a dull pairing. I agree with the original poster.
OTOH Shannyn Sossamon and Jason Dohring are awesome. Jordan Belfi was good too. Wish they were the leads.
Plus the show offers nothing new. Honestly i am not suprised it is cancelled.

So you're saying that Jason and Shannon should have been the lovers, with Jason out there beating up the bad guys?

reply

To each his own, but I thought Sossamon was the weakest of all the characters. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two leads, and Jason Dohring was hilarious.

For the Sophia Myles haters, check out her role in Doctor Who's "The Girl in the Fireplace". She rocks.

I do NOT accept excuses, I'm just going to have to find myself another Giant!

I really wish I could find the interview with Alex where he talks about the unfulfilled love thing between Mick and Beth ~ and his enjoyment of it all, but I can't. :(
Also want to mention - IMO Sophia is awesome. :)

"So you're saying that Jason and Shannon should have been the lovers, with Jason out there beating up the bad guys?"

I am not saying they should have been a copy of Mick and Beth characters. I am just saying they should have been the leads. Wouldnt mind seeing them as lovers tho.

hey--I like seeing Jason and Shannon as much as the next person.

But--Moonlight is 99 per cent a love story, so you have to have the lovers with great chemistry.

Alex and Sophia had great chemistry, in my opinion. But, your mileage may vary.

Mick and Beth's chemistry was lightning in a bottle. It was explosive whenever they had a scene together. Just look at how they stare into eachother's eyes. Mick's eyes follow her with that smoldering look. No other couple even comes close.

reply

I totally agree with you.

reply

No. Friggin. Way.

She's a fantastic, natural, effortless actress. Reminds me of a young Kate Winslet.
