Demon Horn Nitpick

The horns in the show bug the crap out of me. They show Gladys and some others with barely-covered horns walking around in public etc., which I assume is supposed to be amusing (I find it annoying no one seems to notice it but that's beside the point), they made a point of showing that the gay neighbor demons sand their horns off (that's what I took that scene to be showing), yet at many points in the series they show that one of the gay demons and others can change to full human form minus horns (Nina is a prime example).

Is it ever stated there's a reason for all the discrepancies in the horn thing (different types of demons etc.) or is it just a bad plot device we're supposed to ignore that's never explained? Enjoying the show otherwise, but the horn thing is super annoying when I see scenes like Gladys shopping at the local retail center with her horns on display if she can hide them like Steve(?) and Nina and others can.

I guess they could be different types of demons, but it's probably more likely that horns are for demons like the annoying little bits of facial hair that lots of people get, and some people get to a point where they just stop plucking them out and just let them go.

As for people not noticing them, that occurred to me too, but in a show called "Dead Like Me" which, while being a different show, shares a lot of the dark humour and has related subject matter (and the actress who plays Gladys also plays one of the characters in Dead Like Me, so I recommend it to any Gladys fans), it is stated that... I think they worded it something like "the living see what they want to see", or simply don't see the details that don't fit into their world view, unless of course those details are actually pointed out, and then they see what was right before their eyes all along (people like Ben's grandmother being the exception, in that they always see things the way they actually are).

So... I've understood both of those things as explaining the horns thing, except for the demons changing into human form without horns. As for that, I would say that either Nina does shave hers down and that lasts for a while, or maybe demons like Gladys spend so long in human form that the little mini-horns are her true nature breaking through the human facade, and if she changed regularly she wouldn't have that problem.

Then of course Steve and Tony did change, but maybe they didn't change regularly until after they were discovered, and so they didn't need to shave their horns off any more after that.

Those are the things that occurred to me to explain the horns conundrum, in any case. :)
