Im getting my new rig this week, i hope i can play this game on a decent setting.
Amd x2 6000 (3.0ghz)
4gb pc-6400
500 gb HD sata
Evga Geforce 8800 640mb
Sound blaster audigy
with that machine you should be able to run all settings on "HIGH" with "OBJECT QUALITY" and "SHADER QUALITY" being your biggest obstacle. the setting "VERY HIGH" is just a wet dream unless you're running 8800GTX SLI or better.
shareHigh settings in DX10 or DX9?
shareDepends if you are getting Vista. If so then DX10. Anyways, the game will look awesome on those specs. I downloaded the demo and had to play it on 800x600 with all options set to low :(

Eternal Sunshine - Best film ever
That sucks for you :(
That game is so power hungry.
Even at 800x600 on low, did it looked good?
i dont have vista i have XP , my specs are 2 gigs ram AMD 3500 SLI/8800 GTS everything runs on high just fine..
Demo was awesome BTW.
I just saw the new 8800GT and man it seems to kill de 8800gts by a large gap, almost GTX performance.
The price is cheap too.
Im really pissed that i bought a 8800gts, i always buy videocard at bad time.
ehh. The 8800GT is only slightly better then the GTS. But it's crap compared to the GTX and the ulta.
shareSlightly better? check this benchmark

GTX is slightly better (for like 200$ more).
BUT ! the new GTS with 128Sp (base off the G92) will beat the crap out of it. I just sold my GTS and im not even getting the GT, im waiting for the NEW GTS :)
Rumors say it will come out on December 3th. If it's false, then i will get the GT.
Found this on the web...
Finally, yesterday news about the release of GeForce 8800 GTS-based chip G92 with 128 stream processors and 256-bit bus cause even more conflict . Such video card are produced on 65 nm process the amount of memory, will be equal to 512 MB or 1 GB, while classical GeForce 8800 GTS has 320 MB or 640 MB. Recently NVIDIA mentionioned about the GeForce 8800 GTS video card based on the 65 nm chip G92. They explained that the video card GeForce 8800 GT and GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB provide excellent Blu-ray and HD DVD quality .
Thus, NVIDIA lets us know that the GeForce 8800 GTS version with 512 MB memory-based on G92 chip will be released. As explained associate the GeForce 8800 GTS ( G92 chip ) will be released on 3 December, the recommended retail price is close to $ 300.
And from another website...
Simply put, the GeForce 8800 GT will not be the only model powered by the lovely 65nm-built G92. The Corporation known as Nvidia is preparing to revamp the 8800 GTS after it has received a serious beating from the 8800 GT. The new G92-based 8800 GTS will have 512MB of memory, at first and although it will boast a 256-bit memory interface, it will have 128 Stream Processors, same as the G80 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra.
The new 8800 GTS will have updated (read higher) clocks compared to the G80 version and will most likely surpass the 8800 GTX in performance.
Yeah, a super clock gt. NOT a stock clocked one. And the gtx and ultra are still better then all of first 9000 series cards that are coming out. If you want a card thats better from than an ulta or a gtx, then you're going to have to wait for the 9600 series. The real problem with the new gts is that they're still based around the old 8800 gts architecture (along with the rest of the first G9 series cards). Plus the gtx and ultra are both 386 bit cards, the new gts is being dropped to 256 bit in order to cut costs. AND in a addition to this other things that got out dropped down, like the ram, are going to hurt the cards performance at higher settings and resolutions. At lower settings the card is close to the gtx, but it falls behind once the settings get turned up.
shareI had some hicups, but the game was fun to play. I found something that was better than Halo :P
Look at the post, not my sig.
Im running dual 8800 ultras and on very high settings. DX10 and it is unbelievable
sharei think it's worth noting that those who don't have Vista, don't get discouraged you can still get pretty much the same visuals under DX9, just need to rearrange some crap in the CVARs files. and it definately runs better for the average guy on top of that. btw, I installed this game on my bro's PC(AMD 3800+, GeForce 7300GS, 1280mb ram) also, he had to run it on 1024 resolution with all sorts of crap turned off, or 800x600 to get everything up to medium(he wanted physics/explosions etc. on high though and I gotta say I was pretty shocked how good it looked and ran. i would say I feel your pain but to be honest it looked amazing still, I guess i'm not too picky
I was pretty pissed at how little of an impact DX10 made though, what is this like the 2nd or 3rd game in 2007 that nagged us to get Vista/a new video card for a few extra cosmetic crumbs
