can i run smoothly on medium to high settings?

crysis looks really good and i downloaded the demo and it was really laggy, even on all low settings. so these are my new system specs.

-nvidia 7800gt
-amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor
-2gb ram
-windows vista ultimate 32-bit

i dont know much about computers so thats all i know ive got...if theres anything else anyone needs to determine this, just tell me.

7800gt? well, i think that with a resolution of 1280x768 or 1 more, meddium settings (some in High) and without VSYNC and Anti-Aliasing... surely YES, although i´m not sure 100%.
P.S=try to put: r_displayinfo 1 [in the console (\)] and you´ll have to see the FPS, if you see between 25 and 30 you´ll can play well.

did you try tweaking the settings? cuz I'm playing it on a 7300GS, paid around $70 for it last year, so I know it probably sucks compared to other people. granted I play on 1024 resolution, but who's anyone kidding, it looks awesome on that resolution too. also on a AMD 3800+

reply

how much ram do you have?? cuz i play on 7800gt, same processor, and only 1gb ram. it was laggy and looked like ass

1280mb, half of it's old as dirt too, don't know what the common speeds are these days, i imagine it's not a big difference though. or is it? but we do pretty much have an identical setup, you try messing with the CVARs & cfg files yet? here check out the bible for cheapasses like me if you didn't know it already. It's alot to read but you shouldn't regret ithttp://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_1.html just skip to the console commands if you're lazy, they have the biggest impact. don't need to know alot about pc's like you say you don't, just open console in game and type the commands in. better to make a text file with them cuz there's going to be alot of things you'll want to type in, then just save it as a .cfg and it'll run whenever you launch Crysis. that dude explains everything. i'll make a gameplay video later so you can see what to expect or wondering if you're doing it right

then there's this website that shows how to get pretty much the same effect of DX10/Vista on DX9/XP in Crysis, only it actually runs good for people with mid-range systems which is probably most people http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/index.php?topic=11837.0

i love the game and all but Crytek arbitrarily trying to lock out(I know it's easy to get around, they still tried and every other developer would probably follow suit if they could) trying to pimp a whole new OS that's far from necessary is just ridiculous.

im thinking of upgrading my graphics card also, kinda sick of having to tweak every game i get my hands on (cod4, crysis). what if i got my hands on a nvidia 8800? say, a nvidia 8800, 2gb ram, amd dual core processor 3800+, and vista. could i run smoothly and still look beatiful?

Well how much memory does that card have? To get a good frame rate on very high settings you need a top of the line quad core processor, two 640 MB 8800 graphics cards (at least), 2.8 ghz for ZP (3.2 ghz for Vista), and 3 GB of RAM should put you on 60 FPS on very high. If you use an 8800 w/ 640 MB with everything else you said you will probably be on medium with a good frame rate. Maybe upper 40 FPS on medium. GET THE TAOWOLF'S MOD. IT INCREASES GRAPHICS AND PERFORMANCE IF YOU HAVE XP. If you have Vista it will just increase graphics a little (I think).

The game look fine enough on normal high settings. That's all what important to me. It still look beautiful and run smooth on my computer at high. I have only 1 512MB 8800GT video card, 2GB Ram, and Core 2 Duo 2.67ghz.

There's no need to get a very expensive super computer to play this game at very high settings.

*beep* I meant you need a total of 1 gig from graphics card memory so two 8800GT's are good or any other 1 gig supported card. Goddamn my keyboard is a POS.

UPDATE: Crytek has released 3 patches for the game since january, 2 which MAJORLY improved performance and bugs; one was even released just today! Your main system specs are fine and you should be able to run on medium now, with a 7800, and get 35 fps. You can also enable fsaa to improve quality. Refer here for a great tweaking guide and how to enable fsaa: http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_11.html

I would recommend reading the guide from the beginning but I have pointed you to the page for enabling FSAA.

To update crysis to latest version ONLY download the patches 1.2 and 1.21 as they include the patch 1.1. If you try to install crysis, the 1.1 patch, and then the 1.2, you will get errors. If you try to install the small 37 mb 1.21 hotfix without installing 1.2 patch, you will get errors.

In this order, ESPECIALLY if you have 1.1 patch installed, install crysis, 1.2 patch, and then 1.21.

I doubt that you'll run high settings smooth. You're able to run medium though with some minor lagg....

Umm... Vista is better for gaming. XP sucks, no security and DX9. With Vista you get DX10, which is required for very high settings. All these guys are recommending rigs for very high. Here are detailed Crysis specs.

Low settings

OS: WinXP or WinVista
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8 ghz (3.2 ghz for Vista)
Memory: 1 GB RAM (1.5 GB RAM for Vista)
GPU: 256 MB (NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT/256)

Medium settings (looks more realistic than any other game out there, fact, other games just have overdone HDR)

OS: WinXP or WinVista
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO/ @ 2.0 ghz (2.2 ghz for Vista)
Memory: 2 GB RAM
GPU: 512 MB (NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT/512)

High settings (I doubt any game will look this good this gen)

OS: WinXP or WinVista
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO/Quad @ 2.2 ghz (2.40 ghz for Vista)
Memory: 2 GB RAM
GPU: 512 MB or more (nothing less than 8800GTS/512, other good cards for high are 8800 Ultra and 9800GTX)

Very High settings (can't be done on consoles, doubt any other game on PC will look this good)

OS: WinVista (very high disabled for DX9)
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO/Quad @ 2.66 ghz
Memory: 3 GB RAM or more
GPU: 1024 MB (NVIDIA GeForce 9800GX2/1024 or wait for next gen 9900GTX)

Don't use WinVista Home Basic or XP, use either Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate.

Don't get an 8800GTS that's not 512 MB and don't get an 8800GTX (both only GDDR2 and old G80 chip).

Don't get memory that's slower than 800 mhz.

Don't get any 1 GB card unless its a 9800GX2.

GPU's:

8800GT/256: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121221 - low settings

8800GT/512: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121221 - medium settings

9800GTX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150292 - high settings (discard that horrible game that comes with it)

9800GX2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130355 - very high settings (keep that excellent game that comes with it, its the best game)

There you go.
