Have the feeling it was fast forwarded?

As I'm watching this movie, I've noticed that some of the movements are slightly fast for a thriller movie. It's weird. I have a feeling that in the editing room, they've slightly sped up the film. I don't know why I've picked up on this but if you watch it and pay any attention, you might see it too.

It was done intentionally. For example: The night John finds Louisa holding the straw doll, she sleepwalks and says, "I'm coming." At that moment, according to the director's commentary, the film is playing in reverse.

"Jumps" and moments where there are unnatural, disjointed, fast movements contribute to the general sense of unease and an underlying certainty that something is wrong. To the casual movie-goer, it will only be picked up by the subconscious.

It was done in "Shutter Island," too.
