I have a better ending possible spoilers

I thought the movie would have ended better if the only way the father could save his son, and possibly the whole town from these so called mound walkers, would be to kill his daughter. She is the "Queen" and the others can't live without her right? The father would remain alive and his son would be safe, but he would be haunted the rest of his life with the decision he had to make. She would beg him not to kill her, don't kill me daddy, and yet he would. His choosing to die with her while his son was still out there, and still in harms way, made no sense to me. But then again nothing the father did in this movie made sense.

The father didn't die at the end of the movie. You see the father in the reflection of the sons ant farm. Three "mound walkers" are seen behind the son, and then you hear the shotgun chamber a round.

I watched it for the fifth time yesterday and I paused it on the reflection on the picture little Sam holds...I think what I saw was SPOILER ALERT dad carrying Louisa in his arms! It goes so fast that you have to backtrack a couple of times before you notice it. But, this is just my observation. Each time you watch TND, you catch something more. I love this movie.

Do any of you listen to the commentary?
The director said it himself that he ended it so you can pick your own ending.
He said he wanted the reflection to be unclear so YOU (the Viewer) can decide for yourself he said it can be a Mound Walker or it could be Kevin either way the ending isn't so happy because there are still more Walkers Kevin has to face even if it is him in the reflection.
