Entertaining movie, nicely done!!

I happened across this movie last Friday night while searching Netflix and was happy with it. It is rare anymore to find a movie that actually has that creepy but not cheesy, scary but not gore-fest, and had a nice storyline. Sure its not anything all that new in terms of ideas, but I do believe the spin on the movie was nice... The spin being not to give into the new norm in movies of making everything bloody, or "jump" scenes to enhance the scare factor when nothing of any substance is really there. TND is dark and even psychological and physiological horror! Costner plays his role well enough but he isnt even the star. The son and daughter dynamic and their emotional detachment from the mother seems to have left them somewhat detached from one another which makes perfect sense as children sometimes relate to one parent more than the other and siblings are often competitive over affection of parents...

The "mound walkers" were done well and woven into the drama of the movie nicely, not overdone or silly. I was impressed with the acting and the roles each character played as they progressed the movie along a storyline. Not everyone will like this movie, and rightfully so, but I was entertained throughout and lets just say the ending was "superb" in giving each viewer the ability to decipher what just happened! I dont really understand the low rating unless its because it obviously has went overlooked(made in 2009) and if it werent for Netflix I most likely would have never heard of it. I like to think very few movies get by me(Bubba Ho-Tep is in my collection for goodness sake LOL). Very happy I did and will recommend this to any fan of the horror genre!

My best to all who read this and appreciate any comments good or bad. If you didnt like it I would love to know the reason. Have a great day!!

I loved it and everybody who has seen it with me loves it. I think it makes for a great Halloween scary flick. I've seen it several times already, and I think people are just mean about this.

I saw this years ago. It's one of those that if you watch when you have absolutely nothing else to do but watch a movie then you'll enjoy it. I actually enjoyed this pretty much.

Spoily stuff ahead:

I found it entertaining enough to warrant a 5/10 star rating and it held my interest all the way through. It just wasn't anything above average as far as the story goes and I'm getting a little sick of all these films that close with "you fill in the ending" closures. It's starting to seem more lazy than exciting.

As always, I appreciate the lack of jump-startles and I felt the film did convey a bit of suspense with an interesting payoff at the end, though I think it might have been a far more effective film had they employed the use of the scientist/anthropologist(?) a lot more than they did. I think the researching scenes would add a lot more "body" to the film, adding to the suspense and chill factor.

I was a little dismayed that it unraveled into little more than CHUDs in the dirt. I think if this had done well with profits, a sequel has a broad spectrum of directions it could go as far as understanding the creatures and perhaps with a team spelunking into their habitat we would have a more interesting story than what we saw in this film.

Overall, I was not disappointed in the film and it was a welcome reprieve from all the vampire, zombie and torture films that seem to hog the bandwidth of Netflix Streaming these days.

My "#3" key is broken so I'm putting one here so i can cut & paste with it.

Good points Gabby, I also believe a more extensive inclusion of scientist/anthropologist would have made the film better. That part of the film was certainly "rushed" to say the very least. As I feel the story was nice, this may have woven nicely in describing their existence a little better for viewers.

As for the ending I don't think of it so much as a lazy effort as a way to leave each viewer with his/her own interpretation of it. With this ending it would seem justified to make a 2nd film but this didn't do so well monetarily so I don't know if that will ever happen.

I am not a movie maker but i am certainly an avid movie watcher, would love to see more films delve into unchartered territory. Not that this idea was brand new, but it did have some new ideas and traveled in a slightly different direction than others I have seen!
