Very similar plot to The Awakening

Am I the only one who noticed a few pretty big similarities to "The Awakening" (1980)?
Teenage daughter gets possessed by an evil ancient force. Father must kill her to save the world. Archeology/discovering of an ancient place is involved.
Possibly The New Daughter's director took inspiration from that movie?

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

The Awakening is newer though 2011. The New Daughter is 2009. It's based on a short story though so possibly the Awakening may be as well.

The awakening had a "happier" ending.
This ending was as grim as can be !!
