Doesn't this movie have a deeper message?

**SPOILERS** obviously
Maybe I am thinking too much into a creature movie, but ... The daughter is right about the age hormones start kicking in and dads stereotypically want their daughters to stay children forever. Could the creatures represent the hormones or inevitable path of puberty for a teenage girl. The hormonal changes basically can take over an adolescents mind, creating a "new" person. The father doesn't like the changes and fights to get his "old" daughter back, or at least understand what she is going through.

There are tons of subtle clues throughout the movie. Just the fact that the creatures come from a mound of dirt - earth being a representation of fertility and woman. When the daughter is first attacked, the father breaks a glass and cuts himself and the camera does a close-up of the blood in the water. The blood could be representing just his daughters blood as she is attacked, or it could be representing the exact moment of her first period and the beginning of her change.

And in the end, the creatures win and the change takes place. The last thing you see is the creatures coming for the little boy - a foreshadowing of the boys own eventual changes...

Maybe I just need sleep...

You didn't give anything away in the subject line so someone has to open the message to see what it is about. (unless you run into one of those idiotic posts imdb does sometimes and displays entire posts on a related shows main page - nothing any sane person can worry about) The title tells people you are going to go into an indepth discussion which kind of means you will have to pull examples from what happened in the movie.

Not sure why anyone would complain about spoilers when someone has taken the effort to post something that took more than the standard 20 seconds of thought that most imdb posts contain.

Anyway, I definitely think that a lot of the fear in the movie stems from the relationships among the characters. I'm not sure I buy into everything being that closely tied to puberty, but I do see they were saying a lot about how much their family was changing. Puberty suggests a natural change, the mound was anything but natural or good. I feel as if I need more data to see if any teenage girl would get taken over by this mound or if there was something special about the two girls we know about. Mostly, I want to know if they could have done anything differently or was it a lost cause as soon as they moved in.

I don't understand why anyone is on IMDB reading a message board when they haven't seen the movie yet anyway. Why would you even be here? Message boards should be for discussing the movie, characters, ending, etc. Just go in knowing there are going to be spoilers.

The simpler explanation is that the "gods" in the burial mound needed a girl to mate with, and obviously that doesn't happen until she hits puberty.

For me the message was quite obvious: if a mother leaves her children, she will loose them. If you break your family (especially because of another man), it will be doomed. Booooring... But therefore leaves no open questions about the end.

I like how the daughter takes after the mom, a dirty slut. Dad keeps telling her to stay away from the mound, but she just can't resist ancient monster dick and is the gangbang queen of that mound.

I think the "monster ant creatures" represent boys. Boys a father doesn't want his daughter dating. He realizes in the end he can't stop her maturing and that boys will be all around no matter what he does. And to him the "teen boys" represent an ugly evil, something his daughter is attracted to, but he doesn't want her to be.

He keeps telling her to not stay out late, but yet she does, like a typical teen rebelling. As a father, I don't look forward to experiencing this horror in a few years, lol.
