Hey, you guys sound anxious already! I'm on it, by the way. For instance, I've observed that posts for the last episode of Pushing Daisies started on Friday, March 30th, and the "where to" process started on the following Thursday, March 4th, six days later.
Likewise, the last episode of Journeyman airs this Friday the 13, and the "where to" process begins one week later, being announced next week, Thursday, July 19th. So, please enjoy the final moments of Journeyman before that.

Great episode. A worthy effort by the writers to close as much out as possible, and for that my hat is off to them. Langley was stonewalling to protect himself--no, I'll bet they had more in mind, but that was the quickest way to close it. I'll also bet Katie's sister was supposed to hang around longer, but they just dumped her before anything could really get started.
We didn't get to see who's in charge and "pulling the strings", but there was really no way that was going to happen in a single episode.
I liked the way the ending went back to the beginning, showing the background for Dan's first jump, and also the bedroom scene at the end that was the mirror of the one in the first episode. I also very much like the fact that they gave Dan a way out, making it possible for him and Katie to choose to continue.
And finally, I'll miss the theme music, which beat that of Wonderfalls. (I still can't get that damn tune entirely out of my head!) I wish it were longer; as a three-minute track, I'd add it to the collection on my Galaxy Player.
It's a shame this died an early death. I understand it wasn't just the writers' strike; it had lousy ratings all along. Not sure why. My wife is no science fiction fan, but I think even she would like this one.
Excellent choice! Thanks to whomever suggested it!
Dan showing up at a mental institute. How ironic, after his sanity having been questioned so many times. And it was also ironic that he had to trust a supposedly mental patient who claimed he was a time traveler too.
I still can't get used to Dan's complete editorial freedom as far as the stories he covers are concerned. It's a pity the show hasn't showed him being actually useful for the newspaper he works at. I'm quite sure Dan's an excellent reporter, but Journeyman never showed that.
The whole story was very touching and had a surprising twist, going beyond the simple helping someone in need without abandoning the show's premise of, well, helping someone in need. We had just seen how somebody could be entirely erased from the timeline, according to what had happened to Zack. (By the way, if I were Dan, I still wouldn't be able to come to terms with the idea that I'd lost such a lovely daughter as Caroline, but then hard choices have to be made.) This time we saw how a couple's entire life together could be deleted. Definitely changing timelines is a delicate business nobody should mess with, unless absolutely necessary.
Other details deserving mention: Jack investigating and questioning Langley, Livia and her wedding day hassles, Langley finally shedding some light on Dan's situation. Speaking of Livia, it was very bold of ther to tell her future husband about her condition. I wonder how she managed to prove it.
By the way, what kind of VCR was that which Dan used to play Evan's tape showing him and the love of his life dancing to Perfidia? It was such a huge machine for such a small tape. Betamax?
When I commented on the first episode I asked you all to pay attention to the very final scene. Now you know episode 13 ends in a very similar way episode 1 did. The whole adventure comes full circle.
This episode tried to address all the important issues as adequately as possible. It's obvious the writers knew they were being cancelled, so they managed to be prepared for the inevitable ending, unlike it happened in Pushing Daisies one year later. I think it was because if the guys at Pushing Daisies thought they could survive the strike, things couldn't get any worse, but they were wrong.
However, back to Journeyman, this episode could go both ways: it could be either a series ending as well as a season't ending. Perhaps the writers somehow expected things to work favorably to them at the last minute. That's what I call intelligent writing.
I don't think we could expect anything more in a series ending under such circumstances. Considering that, this one gets 10 years of happy marriage.
I believe that videotape was an 8 mm cassette. I didn't really notice the machine, but I've never seen one that could play an 8 mm tape. My brother-in-law had an 8 mm camcorder and always had to use his camera to play the tapes.
As to what the writers had in mind, what happened behind the scenes in the last couple of episodes, and where the series may have gone, check out http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37863. (Which I found in another thread as submitted by Disneyfan16672: Thanks!)
Yes, I remember reading that long ago. "Let’s just say it was too specific and grand to be science or government." Bah! Even when ex-showrunners are explaining they don't really do it. It must be hard for them to reveal those secrets, so they like to keep them even when it doesn't matter anymore.
By the way, what kind of VCR was that which Dan used to play Evan's tape showing him and the love of his life dancing to Perfidia? It was such a huge machine for such a small tape. Betamax?
Definitely a camcorder tape. Maybe 8mm as Dt mentioned, but I thought it looked like the Mini-DV tapes that my last three tape camcorders took.
But then I've only owned one 8mm and three mini-DVs so my mine is probably associating to what I find more familiar.
Now I have one that takes a little SD card or two. And the realization that I have more talent for still photography than for video.
As for the VCR, I'm assuming that it must have been special journalist equipment with places to put whatever video tape a source might give them. I always had to plug the 8mm up to my VHS machine through RCA cables or my mini-DVs to my computer via IEEE (Firewire) cable.

I'd've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.

When VHS was still king and 8mm was first making it's way into the world I had a device that I could slide the 8mm tape into that was a VHS housing that plugged into the VHS player and could view my 8mm tapes on my VHS machine. I also had a similar product that would let me listen to Cd's through my cassette player in the car.
So we have come to the end of another show...wow....What a great ending, the writers really hit their stride in the back half of the series, They wrap it up in such a way it could be a season ender or a finally.
What a touching story, and how fitting they were in a mental institute helping a fellow time traveler. I noticed Evan told them the same thing the other fella did in an earlier episode....It's always the shoes. So was our other friend a time traveler as well???
Wasn't sure at first if the guy was just crazy or what. There was a quick instance there where I though omg, they are going to end this by saying Dan was crazy the whole time or a cliff hanger where Dan is committed but both those thoughts left quickly.
My buddy Elliot Langly, I loved this guy, loved all the scenes with him through out the entire show. For some reason he always reminded me of Dan Fielding on Night Court. The elevator scene was awesome. Especially when he told Dan he was the last one and Dan told him there was one more to which he replied, Who is it? and Dan said he couldn't talk about that....Wise Man....awesome.
I also loved the things they were doing with Jack, he was still B head but he was now doing it on Dan's side. Thought the scene during the lecture was great.
The Scenes with Evan chasing Lauren were very touching and nice to watch and the Dance scene before his eventual death was great.
All in all a great ending especially Dan's ending scene in the bedroom. The best time travel show we have scene imho. I have to give this episode a 10 and the entire season an 8 because of a couple of clunkers early on. Nice Job JourneyMan.

I think that just made the other guy very observant due to his unstable mental condition.

Yes, among those clunkers, we find Dan's work as a reporter...
Hugh: "What are you doing, Dan?" Dan: "I'm checking the guy who shot Reagan." Hugh: "But that was 30 years ago. How is that news?" Dan: "I have a new take on it." Hugh: "Really? What is it?" Dan: "Don't know yet. Probably nothing." Hugh: "Keep the good work!" reply share
Had to watch this one twice to sufficiently take it in.
Livia's lucky. She gets to stop traveling when she gets married. "I'm getting married in two hours, and 50 years ago. ...and I have a spot on my wedding dress and one-hour dry cleaning's still 15 years away." Knowing stuff like that's why I think it would be cooler to travel to the future than to the past.
Surely Dan sort of believed the guy in the first place, otherwise he wouldn't have helped him fly over the cuckoo's nest. And then to bounce back when that happened should have been his confirmation. So why did he and Livia disbelieve him later?
Looks like the writers knew the series was dead in time to make this the series finale. At least by the way Dan said his goodbyes to Katie and then got her attention to watch him bounce away. Still left enough ambiguity there for a season-ending cliffhanger, though. And it's gotta be more than a coincidence that he first bounced right after the other guy died.
All in all, though, I still liked this one. I give it 7 personal scrapbooks of multiple realities.

Well, I watched them all twice myself.

It could be cooler to see the new wonders, but it would make me feel crappier to come back to my own time and not have them, especially after having been forced to live and actually adapt to life in the future.
Surely Dan sort of believed the guy in the first place, otherwise he wouldn't have helped him fly over the cuckoo's nest. And then to bounce back when that happened should have been his confirmation. So why did he and Livia disbelieve him later?
First Dan believed Ethan because of the things he said. But then, seeing that the woman didn't recognize Ethan, Dan and Livia decided they were there to help a simple mental case for some obscure reason. (Actually I agree Dan dismissed too quickly what had convinced him earlier).

OK, to you guys who answered my 8mm tape query, thank you all. Now I remember, back in 2006 when I was studying, again, in the university (long story), I made a couple videos as video assignments for my communications course, and we used that kind of tape, though I never had a camera that used one. There was a special deck that captured the recorded images and sounds from such a tape and loaded that into the computer, and then we'd edit the whole thing in a Mac using Final Cut. I should've remembered that.
So it’s over I will miss this one sorry for the delay I was sidetracked in the wilderness for a while. Just finished watching it for the second time glad to see Dan has come to terms with his super powers. He will make great time traveler, sad to see the crazy guy die at least it was necessary so Dan could take over his duties. Guess if you can’t handle the job they bring in someone else. Reminds me of the real world. He needs to lose Katie she always nagging on him about something. So I gather Dan and Livia’s abilities are divine given and it’s not some government project gone bad? If its divine intervention how did Langley stumble on it guess we will never know. He sure had a lot of details on the Time Travel business. Just like FF and PD this one needed a second season NBC let another one slip away. Just like the original Star Trek they let a keeper slip through cracks.
