Would this be better if it were Spider-Man 4 with everyone recast?
Instead of rebooting, they just continued the Spider-Man 3 story without Raimi and with a mostly new cast? Watching it again, one major issue is that this movie tries too hard to be different from the Raimi film while also owing a SHIT TON to the Raimi films, like they were in the writing rooms going "wait, we can't do that either! DAMN IT!!!" When they should've just done it anyway.
Gosling and Stone are really bad in this movie but they have moments where they work well and they would've been great in Raimi's films. I wonder if the film would've been more successful if they had just picked up where Spider-Man 3 left off since that film was implying The Lizard either way. Did you know they nearly recast Maguire with Jake Gyllenhaal for Spider-Man 2? Maybe had that happened earlier, it would've been easier for fans to swallow another recasting.
