THEORY: How time can be changed according to the movie (SPOILER)

As long as the source code program is allowed to finish at the end of 8 minutes, nothing changes in the real world.

But if you kill the person who is being used to run the source code before the 8 minutes are up or right at the end of the 8 minutes, as in the movie, then real time is rewritten to whatever was happening in the last source code run.

At least, that is how I interpret what the movie is telling us.

Roll on the TV series. :)

OMG! Do all the fans of this film have ADD? Can people not pay attention to the basic plot? The film is not about time travel. Never was! You cannot change the real world from within the memory world. These points were made very clear in the movie, over and over and over again!

Are you saying he now lives in a fake alternative reality created by his brain? I don't think that's what the movie told us in the end. They told us over and over it couldn't be changed but then they showed that rule could be broken.

I'm not entirely sure how to take the ending. I think it was a reality he took with him after death, which was based on/inspired by the events that transpired. So, I took it as being his version of the after life. The final text message he sent was received by the woman at the Source Code agency in the alternate reality where there was no project for them to work on yet (because the bomb threat had been called in). It was not the same reality we started the movie in. So, yes I think he was dead once she pulled the plug. Was the rule broken? I don't think so, despite his final comments about it working better than they expected. I think the writers left it open to interpretation, though, much like Total Recall.

It's parallel time travel he was subjected to, not linear. He was thrown a few hours into the past in an alternate reality parallel dimension, so he continued to live in that parallel world on his last trip (after kissing her) before Goodwin pulled the plug ending his physical body's life support in our reality. So his soul was stuck in the Sean's body in that other real parallel earth... talk about exhausting crap to think about lol. So I guess we are left to assume that Shawn's Soul was kicked out of his own body and who knows telling where now. At least I assume this is what happened since it took me 3x watching this movie over the past couple years to figure this out when I decided to put the effort into it.

They don't know what they are talking about, they don't even know what Source Code is... Source Code DOES NOT CHANGE while a program is running. Source code is what the programmer writes or creates, then it is converted into a usable program. The whole use of "Source Code" in this movie makes absolutely no sense. If they wanted to fabricate the idea, they should have used their on fictional term, not a real term with a fictional definition.
