Was there any purpose on the repeating torturing scenes of Theon, then showing a torturing scene of Theon after they showed another torturing of Theon?

beside that I had the feeling that everybody wanted to go somewhere but no one ever reaches the point of destination...

They had to do something to make what's his face worse than Joffrey.
